Thread regarding CA Technologies (CA Inc.) layoffs

When will Islandia close?

I am in support, in Islandia. We are the few technical people left in the building.

I am sure everyone not in support will be laid off on day 1.

How about Support in Islandia? So far, we have heard nothing, which is extremely suspicious.

The only reason I am sticking around is for the severance and stocks. I am hoping we get laid off quickly.

Anyone thinking Islandia will be occupied until 2021 is smoking something. Or that they can’t lay people off.

My predictions.

1) they will lay off at least 50% of Islandia day one. They can pay in lieu of WARN. Severance counts against that, so everyone laid off will likely be people already getting 13 weeks severance. These long term people are also likely the most expensive.

2) floors will be closed immediately, or by end of the year at the latest. The remaining people can be relocated to the first couple of floors.

3) as more layoffs occur less expensive facilities in a class B office will be found and Islandia either sublet or a penalty paid to exit sooner.

Islandia and its people have no special appeal to Broadcom. It is very expensive and not aligned to their company.

Not soon enough, I've been waiting for the day support finally gets moved to ITC or Wipro. Maybe then we'll get some half-competent support personnel, instead of the farce we have today.

Customer contacts is just a farce. Broadcom can whack all of you day 1 leaving behind 1 or 2 people. Most likely half will be gone day 1, the other 40% given 6 month transition role so can train your wipro replacements. The small 10% stay until the customer contracts get renewed then your gone too.

My best guess is in 6-9 months, 1 year at most. The can’t close it during the first three months because they should need space for the 90 day WARN period regardless of how many people get let go. There will be some Islandia folks even in places like GIS who are still part of the transition.

But I don’t think anyone is Islandia becomes a long term Broadcom employee. The cost of the lease is secondary to the cost of he employees, and letting those 1000 people go probably saves 200 million right off the bat.

I don't work in Islandia but I work in support and the product I support has many team members in Islandia. I hope they aren't laid off day 1. We will be screwed (even more)

I don’t think it’s going to be quick. There are customer contracts that need to be honored. Keep in mind if your product space gets divested you can lose all of your severance if the contract language dictates the new company won’t honor it. You have will no choice but to go to the new company. If you decline you will get 0. My guess is Islandia support dies a slow death leading up to the 2021 lease expiration.

November 5th is coming fast. I got my resume updated and out already into several recruiters.

I would advise you to do the same before it's too late.

It depends on the product you support.

Maybe you get the same deal ITC are getting.

Hyderabad employees are asked relocate to Bangalore office. Employees can opt to relocate or leave.

You might be asked to relocate.
