Just found this site. Half the SE’s on my team let go today including me. Really hurts. I have a new baby. Never thought this would happen. Wish I had seen this site earlier. Would have taken other external offers earlier. Do yourself a favor. Loyalty is worthless to Juniper. If you can get out then get out. Don’t wait for them to fire you on a random day early in the morning while you are making breakfast for your kid. I blame myself for being so naïeve. I put my energy effort and faith into a company that f-Ed me and my family.

Which account teams were affected? Hope it wasn't as bad as the February layoffs.
horrible. so sorry. who the hell lays off a new parent?! juniper has fallen so far
I am so sorry to read this original post. You will land something soon - keep your spirits up.
As for juniper, it sounds like the future is not looking good. All the politicians and gamers will battle it out and fight each other. Best is to avoid getting caught up on their games and do your work.
As a follow-up to my message below (Vgy9A3B-zmv) and the topic regarding recruiters (apologies for any misspells as the auto correct feature on my phone is a PITA)....
RECRUITERS are the absolute BEST way to land a job as I mentioned before. But to have absolute success, you must BE in their ear like a fly! That means bugging the recruiters EVERY damn day until they answer you!! They have loads of resumes they're lining up interviews and eventually most all will reply to you...It may take days or even weeks but you must BUG the f*ck out of THEM EVERY(!) DAY!!....Also remember that large companies have a PLATOON of "insider" recruiters. So find EACH ONE of them on LinkedIn and bug them DAILY! While one Google recruiter may blue you of, the other Google recruiter may like you enough and schedule the interview. You're paying a law of averages so be hitting up a list of recruiters daily...50-100. THEY WILL EVENTUALLY RESPOND off your resume is engineered to be CLEAR (see below)
Your backgrounds are stand out (otherwise you wouldn't have been hired at selective Juniper) so make sure your resume is CLEAR & SIMPLE! Google search successful resumes how they look from people hired at these FANGish/unicorn startup companies. They're SIMPLE & CLEAR! WHEN you have a resume reader's attention, your bulleted skills at the TOP must communicate in 5-10 seconds who YOU are! If the language or job title is too techno, you'll LOSE the resume screener/Recruiter (paraphrase your payroll job title if its too cryptic..Recruiters think this is MANDATORY in helping you find a proper fit within their companies). So COMMUNICATE what THEY need to hear. 10 seconds of scanning is ALL you have before they move on SO MAKE IT COUNT!!....IF necessary HIRE a resume consultant-- it can make all the difference in the world (though all the hand holding you need is on the web). When I re-engineered my resume following my advice above from other resume pros, my hit rate shot up dramatically!!!! Remember, it's a "10 second sell/pitch"! That's all you have. No fancy fonts, just clear and concise!
YOU ARE ALL GOOD ENOUGH TO LAND A JOB AT A FANG/unicorn! The ONLY limiting factor is your AMBITION to hit up TONS of recruiters on a DAILY basis! Also have the resume clarity at A+level.
USE your ex colleague at a company you want to work for EMAIL their company's recruiter. That HELPS GREATLY (I've gotten many interviews in this manner). If your buddy doesn't know the recruiter names at his company, give him a list of names and/or emails. He has a company directory so he can BLIND copy 10-20+ of these Recruiter guys at his company to give you an interview screen. IT WORKS!!! Hopefully you have some buds that'll do this for you (I nurtured my network via beers) It only takes 5 minutes of their time to blind copy a PLATOON of his/her company's recruiters from the Company Recruiter names you found on LinkedIn. In this manner, the Recruiter is being daily BOMBED directly thru you via email/LinkedIn PM...AND...your buddies are also bugging him. LOL! Trust me, you WILL(!!) get your interview screen!
There's so much hiring going on right now it's ridiculous! So don't stress to much--take it in stride! It's a fantastic time to upgrade your pay at a healthy company.
I know for FACT that Amazon/AWS (etc), Google Cloud, Facebook, Uber, Airbnb, Apple, Netflix, Snap, Salesforce, Arista, Cisco, Microsoft Azure and other cloud companies are hiring BOATLOADS with job opportunities in ALL sectors that are UNADVERTISED!! These go thru Recruiters and are hired BY the Recruiters! A Google Recruiter example earns $450k/yr to show you how valued they are! They are NO joke! Facebook hired over 10k+ people the past year and they're chock full interviewing tons of people to add thousands more this in the coming months for their new projects. Their Menlo Park campus is so overflowing with new employees that cars are stacked and need Valet service just to squeeze them in!! This is the reality that is going on all over the place when you step back to analyze the job market. OMG and the compensation improvement will leave a HUGE smile on your face!
USING these methods I have absoluteluy NO Concern that any of you CAN land serious interviews/ "dream" jobs. MY REAL concern for all of you is that you MUST PREP proper for the technical portions! Yes there will be Google/FB/etc behavioral interviews that'll be the easiest interviews of that day (use this INVALUABLE guide as they did INDEED ASK these questions: https://interviewjoy.com/services/interview-process-details/google-manager-interview-questions-answers/). But you must PREP weeks/months depending on your comfort of remembering academia. Software engineers evangelize Leetcode.com for instance as. Whatever your subject matters, just REFRESH that subject matter expertise to be on top of your game! Remember, you CANNOT re-interview with these FANGS for 6-12 months so make your interview COUNT!!! This isn't to scare you. You are all easily/obviously extremely intelligent/experienced enough, but you need to "hit the weights" and get back to championship form of your former Rocky years! University grads spend 6 months of Leetcode before interviewing. Some do it in 3 months to feel comfortable. Some do it in less time. The quizzing of these PREP websites will let you know how close you are to "boxing shape". DON'T WING IT MY FRIENDS! Otherwise you BLOW AWAY a fair shot at dream job that could have been YOURS with ENOUGH prep. I'd rather spend 3-4 months unemployed and prepping DEEP than inpatiently going in straight away in to BLOW that interview. If a Recruiter wants to interview you NOW, that's fine and great!! But the next step will be a phone call with an actual employee. Depending on the content advice from your Recruiter, you may Wing that one after 1+ week prep...or not...it depends ON content. BUT the NEXT step future on-sites MUST BE DELAYED LONG ENOUGH(!) for you to PREP to boxing shape! This is D Day! You WILL have your pants pulled down if you haven't prepped! LOL!
After I received my pass from the employee interview phone call, I PURPOSELY DELAYED my on-sites with Google for 3 months so I could prep (the recruiter also encouraged it as these interviews can be heady). And Thank GOD I did. I spent EVERY WEEKEND studying and studying after work for about 4 hours (almost like taking a night school class or SAT prep). The payoff from my prepping was there and I landed these jobs. You can too! Just fcking PREP like a motherfcker! No joke! Quiz prepping from the Prep sites is fun, btw. These skills will help you in the job you're applying for so the prep doesn't get lost afterwards. MANY ex-Juniper colleagues have landed all over the Valley at such companies I listed above and then some! So why wouldn't YOU?! You're all extremely capable and have the resume to prove it! You gotta just "hit the gym" and put fun family activities to the side for a while so you have enough forearm strength to hit that baseball over the fence. Then you can coast for many years without worrying about layoffs for quite a long time!
So based on my message here and the one listed earlier in the thread, use all the Linkedin angles I described (i.e. PM Recruiters, ex-colleagues you're looking and to contact their company Recruiters....give your buddy the names to make his/her life easier with the Corporate Directory he/she has access to). DOWNLOAD the Blind App to your phone (https://www.teamblind.com/)--the topics of prep & salaries & internal referrals will be INVALUABLE tools for you--Personal Message or start a New Topic to ASK some of these guys for Internal References...they're all happy to oblige! It's done all the f*cking time there!
Btw, if you need a job, like yesterday, hit Amazon the hardest. They're hiring an ARMY right now. It's ridiculous! They may not have the lifestyle of Google/FB, but they will pay you really well and looks great on the resume. Just remember their salary mandatorily tops out at $160k(?) regardless of level but then give you tons of RSUs and Sign on to conservatively make a $300k+ package without too much drama if you have enough yrs experience. You can use them as a stepping stone to something better 1-2 years down the road as you're now within this "elite bubble of uber profitable companies" that have a salary arms race going on right now. The next elite tier company will match/beat the unvested RSU shares you leave behind at Amazon, so no biggie
Good luck! God Bless! PRAY and ABSOLUTELY BELIEVE in yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WILL IT/MANIFEST your future as it's THERE for YOU to GRAB in this MONSTER Economy--it can't get better!! You WILL ACHIEVE it as long as you pull your fair share of weight. This is all a giant stupid BOARD GAME after all! No more, No less! :=)
I am very sorry to hear this. This website can be a blessing and a curse. It is good to have an outlet for information like this because Juniper management keeps these things secret, even from managers and directors. It is a sorry way to do things and only causes worse problems with morale throughout the company.
I would love to know actual standing with the company. I know where I stand with my management chain, but from all those I know that have been laid off in the past year, it really didn't matter how well you perform your job, but how higher ups see us. First line managers and directors are just as worried as most of us and also in the dark about overall layoff state.
I have seen people respond to posts just as yours with, well you should have left before you got laid off, or some other BS, but the fact is that myself, and a lot of people have situations where you can't just leave a job quickly because there are issues like health insurance (at least here in the US). Truly, that is what is keeping me on at the moment, there are plenty of contracting jobs I could walk into today, but with no benefits, it is useless if you have a family and have to pay $1700 for COBRA coverage. As far as FTE positions, they are much rarer these days (80% of new jobs created are "gig: or contracting).
Juniper management could fix morale if they started being honest with its employees, not surreptitiously dropping fairy tales about super-secret plans to lose money and survive, or laying off small groups individually and quietly to avoid WARN messaging.
I'm sorry to hear that man! I've been thru this rodeo more than once. The great thing is that the employment market is super hot right now and you'll have NO problems finding a new job right quick! Plus, your comp will ramp up substantially at your next gig--it'll be shocking to you. It was for me.
I had an urgent need to leave as the warning signs were everywhere. I'd be a complete fool to not put massive effort in a job search. I finally found something after many months with my skill set that's not as hot as yours. It'll ultimately be a win/win for you in absolutely EVERY(!) category.
Pray to God and carpet bomb the recruiters on Linkedin (sign up for the premium service for unlimited messaging). Recruiters is the BEST way to get jobs (hit up MANY recruiters at the same company). They have TONS of unadvertised jobs that they're exclusively privy to. When a job is advertised on job sites it'll be a waste of breath generally speaking. Amazon right now is hiring hugely with comps that'll blow your mind..You could land a job with them in a month easily, I'd say. Google and Facebook are hiring boatloads too but remember you'll have to stay frosty on your tech interview skills (ie. Leftover if applicable). You work at Juniper so your resume must be great so you shouldn't have any issues landing something really good!
Another piece of advice is to get ex colleagues at other companies REFER you internally to recruiters (hit them up on Linkedin). This is another great shortcut.
I lined up jobs at Google and Facebook (huge comps) all thru internal recruiters for these unadvertised jobs. Forget the job ads--your "in" is thru the back door...no different than when you were in college and the jobs there were unadvertised.
Download the app Blind to your phone and PM/ask people to refer you at their companies. They help out all the time!!! The comps they share with you on that chat board will blow your mind and be very useful in your negotiations!
You gotta think smart and creatively and you'll have a MUCH BETTER job in no time!
BTW, you'll likely land a great job at Amazon the soonest. But remember their internal recruiters are slow/lazy so you must PUSH them to execute. This is a known fact in inner circles so keep pushing them RELENTLESSLY after you do your interviews for a job.
Also study your tech. These interviews are challenging but really doable if you take time to study WELL! For me out was 3 months of intensity. There's tons of info on the net on how to prepare for such interviews. YouTube and Udemy are great sources to ramp up on the cheap..I had much success this way! DO NOT WING it!! Prep WELL and delay the interviews until you ramp up. You wrong be able to interview with some of the FANGS for 6-12 months so make it count when you go in!
Good luck and BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!! The market is super hot so count this event as a mixed blessing to leave a toxic company for a healthy one for many, many harmonious work years! God Bless!
Well you got 3 months + the going away bonus, right. And if you had offers in the past without even looking then surely you’ll get a couple of offers in the next few months. This is a good thing right. And it least your naïveté is gone. Paranoia has been a great motivator for me. Survived jesus’ knows how many layoffs at different companies throughout my career. And been laid off myself. Whiz bang job market too. I’ve been canned during recessions. I wish I could get out myself but my skill set isn’t as valuable in the market as it used to be.
Consider your self lucky to be out when the industry is still in good shape. Lots of demand for decent SEs, devs, QA, if you are willing to learn, apply and put in the effort. Juniper is a dead man walking, you anyway had no future there. The ones who are connected, F&F are the only parasites they need there.
I'm sorry. You will find something.
Sorry to hear, good luck to you and your family.
