Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

with the shut down of qaud i would suggest these changes to the city of Sidney policies .

  1. The city try to adopt policy which will try to retain as many city employees as possible. 2. All further capita expenses for vehicles golf carts etc are put on hold UNLESS IT IS DEEMED absolute.. deemed necessary by the council .3. In regard to policy at the golf course the city of Sidney put a end to all of these good old boys deal to insure the parties who purchase part of the property at the golf course get a sweet heart deal. Instead the city look at the possibility of selling the golf course to a party in a typical real estate deal. 4. this is a very stressful time for the pubic and pubic input may be helpful and I would suggest returning Sidney council meeting to a policy where there can be discussion at council meetings between the pubic and the council at meeting which is typical except in Sidney . 5. the process of having votes by signed returned ballot are ended and WE HAVE FREE ELECTIONS AT THE VOTING BOOTH.

Exactly, the mayor was one of the owners of the golf course. This was an obvious conflict of interest, but he was backed by the Cabela's execs and all of the employee's who were Sidney residents voted as they were instructed to. Hate to say it, but Sidney has gotten what they deserve.

In the past most of the elected officials were high ranking members of the social and Cabela's elite.

So why would it suprise anyone that sweetheart and good ole boy deals were the order of the day.

Time to pay the check as it were. And those who created the bill are no longer atound,. Reap the rewards and leave the destruction to the little people

We have left the decisions up to our elected officials in business dealing with the golf courses in the past. The results have been a sweet heart deal for the parties involved in the deal and a bad deal for the taxpayers of Sidney. How about in the future our leaders represent the taxpayers of Sidney in business concerning the golf course?

The changes that are coming to our community will be harsh for those of us left here.

No one thought this day would come, yet here it is, with all it glorious destruction and devastation.

So many lives ruined by the greed of a few individuals.

May God have mercy on us

Many individuals made the fatal error of pointing out the facts in the previous comments.

They had thier lives and careers effectively destroyed by a corrupt political economic and social environment.

Why would anyone feel pity for the area.

Sidney is dead! It's in the middle of nowhere and has nothing to offer now that Cabela's is more or less gone. I don't even understand how it can be called a city.

If you can, move on.

OK. Put the golf course up for sale. Then just sit back and wait for the bidding war to begin. ,,,,,,,,,,,Why would anyone buy a golf course in a town growing unemployment, high foreclosures rate and no business prospects. no wonder the city council won't listen to you. You make no sense. Leave city policy to you elected officials.

Any business associated with cabelas or that has a cabelas contract is doomed. So is the town, since none of you people wanted to stand up to them years ago. It’s time to pay the piper boys.....

You propose to sell city property ie golf course.

When in all reality there are numerous properties around our community that are currently for sale. Many which have been drastically reduced to attract buyers.

Very few which are being purchased at this time. Due to a reduction of gainfull emplyment.

So how would you suggest the city attract a group of investors to purchase the golf course,. When the area is showing a steady decline at the moment.

Now that yet another major employer has chosen to shutter its doors and windows and relocate, to an investor there seems no real incentive to purchase investment properties in a location that has a somewhat bleak future.

I wonder if the golf course have ever showed a profit. I am suggesting we have a standard sale of property at the golf course. I do not suggest a situation ehere the taxpayer of Sidney sell the property to a group of unknown people and basically guarantee them a good return on their investment no matter what happens. If the property doesn’t bring what the seller wants they can always take the property off the market

This last special election the ballots were sent thru the mail and had to be returned and signed. I know some elderly people who are home owners and probably would have voted against the spendure who never received a ballot .i would suggest saving thousands and thousands of dollars and have the ballots at the voting booth.

Sell the golf course? The value of that course has never been lower. Are a "buy high, sell slow kinda guy". Clearly you are not a business man.
