Thread regarding VeriFone layoffs

We lost some of our best...

Makes you wonder who makes these decisions... We lost some of our best people in this round of layoffs... Why? Where is the logic in that?

At the same time, some of the people who truly are dead weight on the company are still here...

One thing is clear, meritocracy had nothing to do with this... Really makes you wonder...

..and not only did they not get rid of the laughing stock of SVP of Engineering, they promoted him. Everyone, and I mean everyone, thought he was the most ineffective, uninspiring, and embarrassing manager they've ever experienced. He should've been the first to go. Amazing. Only his 'yes' men were left behind as is typical in these situations.

job titles, salaries, and locations were sent to an outside firm to analyze, ultimately decided who stays and who goes. That's right, your name was part of a spreadsheet sorted by salary and job title. If this outside firm decided you made too much, position was not part of the vision, or deemed unnecessary for another reason you were exited. Only your director/VP could save you, but at the cost of nominating another at the same rate.
