Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

The Essendant buy - keep the champagne on ice

This isn't going to play out for the workers at all. First of all, when this sort of acquisitions happen some reorganization of WF is bound to happen on both ends. Staples has already revealed its plans to cut store sales by half (from 40% to 20%). Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t that mean about 50% of people in retail will potentially lose their jobs.

I read and rarely post. I think a few things need to be said.

  1. Corporate goals should not be shared outside of Staples.

  2. Staples is on track for success. Anyone saying otherwise needs to be informed of reality versus conjecture.

  3. If you are informed and still can't find a way to get in the success wagon, then get off the road, you're in the way!

Trolls will be trolls but stupidity that influences sentiment shouldn't be tolerated.

Does staples still have stores? There are none left in my area. They seem very insignificant. Not sure why they are needed. I have not been in one for years.

Well, we just added $5 billion to the B2B side of the ledger.

if what Post ID: @VfZ4D2s-qgp says is true the B2B and e-commerce business would need to increase more than 160% I don't think anyone believes that will ever happen.

No. That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works.

The goal you reference is to reduce retail's share of Staples overall business to 20%. The goal is not to reduce the revenue earned by the retail Channel by half. Nor is it a desire to reduce store count by half. The goal is to increase the B2B and e-commerce side of the business significantly.

Purchasing Essendant reduces retail's overall share of the business significantly without making any changes to that side of the business.
