2008 was scary and very real. Nobody felt safe. I just joined the company when those layoffs were announced. Friends I know we’re let go. Crazy stories during that time. If you were a contractor, you had one hour to clean out your desk as be escorted out. If you were a FTE, you had 30 days to find another job or get laid off.
2013 was the culling of the SDET. Only impacted them.
Wishful thinking - Windows is rapidly diminishing importance but full of headcount. You may get to interview for another internal job, but if you've been around for a while I would start looking outside.
