Thread regarding CA Technologies (CA Inc.) layoffs

Just to recap

  • With the exception of HR, executive leadership has disappeared. The only leader talking to us is HR, guess what that means.

  • CA World is cancelled, for a variety of reasons. Two of the most likely is we can’t commit to any roadmaps in Enterprise software and most of the CA World staff would be fired shortly after the conference. Outside of Mainframe CA could not commit to any roadmaps - so a conference would have been too risky

  • More than half the open headcount were cancelled, and most likely only a fraction of offices will remain open

  • Benefits are already getting cut - Above and Beyond has been frozen, future LDP and tuition reimbursement has been put on hold, health care discounts disappeared, and the child care facilities are shutting down.

  • Broadcom only appears to be interested in Mainframe and patent trolling. The only open hiring positions are engineering positions in BU’s rumored to be up for sale

  • There has not been a single piece of good news since July 11th.

Please realize, if you haven’t already, that everyone outside of mainframe engineering is in trouble. Sales, services, legal, GIS, SaaS, finance, marketing, support, and common services will all experience 75-90 percent cuts in 6 months post close.

If you have a lot of severance or RSU’s, consider telling your VP you prefer getting let go day 1. The transition scenario is not as attractive as one might think. Broadcom might rebadge you as a Wipro employee and there is no guarantee severance or RSUs carry over. They might also look for ways to drive you out by forcing you to work West Coast hours, commuting to an untenable location, unrealistic performance management goals, or selling your BU to a private equity fund. At best you will be on edge week to week wondering when you get fired with 12 weeks transition bonus to show for it.

I Agree with the poster, upper management has gone dead! Managers that used to send out emails, weekly, wanting this and that, or massive updates etc seem to have all turned phones and emails off.

Lots of silly speculation allover though, and Yammer answers are looping as people ask the same stuff over and over in different ways!

All Guy needs do is cut paste his old replies. Kudos to him for being the only communications conduit.

I feel sorry for some of the yammer posters complaining about what they might get from hypothetical Broadcom benefits vs CA benefits.

They don’t realize it’s a moot point; they won’t be getting ANY benefits shortly, perhaps a severance package if they are lucky. It hasn’t clicked for these people that they will be gone.

So accurate about some of th people posting on Yammer/not all of them, but some. One person asking for how much will benefits cost and when they get the answer everyone starts complaining and concerned about the costs versus the fact that they are getting a response from one person that is actually responding personally. Someone said it is his job to do so, it isn’t. He doesn’t have the job of trying to answer, he could easily say “you will learn more from Broadcom later”. I’ve been acquired twice before and the openness we are getting is unheard of. Yet, people still complain about this or that. Not sure if you realized but thanks to the stupid complaining, we’ve now been told we will have to wait to hear from Broadcom. Smart move. We also have people sharing that they have diseases on a company message board. Business maturity is important at a time like this and I wish my colleagues would show some of it. Not all people at CA are immature and want free laptops. If Broadcom reads any of this, please don’t judge the entire company based on what you see.

Yammer is so annoying with dumb questions to the one exec still showing up and then people sharing TMI and virtue signaling

Yes, keto is a very effective way to keep your skills up to date while keeping a slim figure. Your psychoanalysis is as strong as your grammar.

Pray you get let go in day 1 and keep your 20 weeks of severance. Let’s see what Broadcom thinks of your wonderful skills. Congratulations on a job well done.

Bike Boy should be fired for cause. Isn’t there a reason to terminate someone when they don’t come to work for like 5 days in a row? It is not fair. Leaders lead when times are tough not hide. One person is showing leadership, but make no mistake, even he is tiring of some of the nonsense these people are posting internally. Be careful, the one person communicating can also say f this, I’m done and then you will hear nothing. The people of CA can be real babies. Some of the Yammer posts are embarrassing.

Oh bull. I've been at CA a decade and my skills are up to date. Why? Because I've taken the time and put in the work to keto them that way. Someone's projecting...

No, I never cared a lot for what management said. It did t impact my day to day job...

The message of CA World getting cancelled should have come from Bikeboy.

You only get the nice vacation if they honor severance, and the point of the post was to encourage people, if in that position, to consider asking to be part of the Day 1 group.

If you’ve been at CA more than a couple of years and think your skills are up to date, that’s a joke. It’s a mainframe company who hasn’t improved any product it acquired or done anything innovative in the last ten years. The market is hot, but dont think CA has a good reputation with any fortune 100 company and it’s only going to get worse.

I bet you're one of those that complained anytime executive leadership said anything anyway, so aren't you thrilled they aren't talking? Most of the issues are people issues, so of course Guy is handling them, he always has....you know because that's his job.

CA World being cancelled does s---, but it makes sense regardless. Unless a clear picture can be articulated it shouldn't be held. It doesn't mean decisions won't be made by then, it means they won't be made in time to properly prepare. Better to cancel now rather than have a half baked message during the conference.

Healthcare discounts were cut before the acquisition and the same happened all over the country because of pending litigation around the offering of those discounts. Has Zero to do with the acquisition. CDC closing, once again the decision made well before the acquisition. Above and Beyond type programs are typically shut down during an acquisition, they have been abused at companies many times as backdoors to give people money. And while I'm personally very sad about LDP and Tuition reimbursement....both would have straddled the two companies and it makes sense to put them on hold. We know Broadcom has a very generous and broad tuition reimbursement program.

Broadcom is interested in what will make them money plain and simple. I mean let's face it that's why you buy a company, to make money. If a BU can't make money, it should be dumped or recreated in a manner that allows it to make money. Last I checked CA wasn't a charity either and has done plenty of its own product discontinuations and spinoffs over the years, it's all part of doing business.

I for one am not on edge. I do my job, I do it well and I have skills that are in demand and thanks in part to CA, skills that are continuously updated to be relevant. If I'm laid off, great I've got a nice vacation and then back to work. If I'm sold off, private equity either pays for me or someone else does, if it becomes a toxic environment (You know by a bunch of people that always whine about what could happen) then I find something else. Absolutely no different than what would happen on July 10th
