Thread regarding Sabre Holdings layoffs

Is Sabre really on a journey of technological evolution

The company CEO Sean Menke spoke at the IATA AIR Symposium in Rome last week. Seems that he spent the central part of his speech on emphasizing Sabre’s journey towards technological innovation and towards adopting a new company vision and direction. No one can argue that change and new technologies are necessary, and while his speech sounds nice, the fact is that we haven't seen much of that innovation under his reign, just a whole lot of reorganizations an layoffs.

You cannot implement any technical strategy without a CTO. We had one who didn't understand what we had nor what the cost was to change it all to what he wanted it to be. The plan was impossible to accomplish in a reasonable time or on a reasonable budget. Eventually that became obvious to everyone but now nobody knows what the strategy is because nobody has officially stated that the CTO was fired because his plan was junk. So we're still kinda trying to make that impossible goal. Get in the boat! Where's it sailing to? Nobody knows! It spent 2018 going nowhere but there was a lot of sporadic splashing of oars in the water that made it look like something might have been happening, although nothing really was.

This company will be still slow and less innovative than it could as long as politics and lack of transparency will rule. To be innovative - people need to have time for it - and at this moment - the higher management seems to be completely unaware of it.

This company is more likely to overcommit, fail and then try to patch it up in the last moment instead of admitting that the 'Success' was not so successful and that we need to do our jobs with better quality.(at all levels)

Solving poor marketing/delivery communication with the client by hacks in the code - just to keep somebody's post safe? - Welcome to Sabre! :)

I wonder if and when Ravi G. and some of his directs will have a talk with Sean and explain which parts of the 'company culture' they didn't understand...

To the guy that applaudes the 100 bonus (around 60 bucks net).

get real. we have no P1’s because we barely have any code that goes to prod these days !

If we actually had to spin code out quickly or got new clients we’d have p1’s all over the place. We didnt do anything to actually “fix” SDLC.

Is this your first software job ?

Dont be embarrased, we’ve spent millions on leadership that doesnt know software (in a software company). #metoo

To the first reply in this chain, if you cannot even spell the name of your primary competitor correctly then you cannot be taken seriously. Sean did an excellent job during his keynote in Rome and gave an excellent picture of who we are and where we are going. You all believe we are making no progress and I bet you turned down your 2 x $100 bonuses, number 3 on the way.

Yes the “Boat was sinking when I got here and I am saving us all “ is a pretty tiring speech after the CEO and his high payroll team have been here two years.

His true accomplishment ? Under 2 percent AS growth. Congrats. You are a superstar.

Our board must be getting mentoring advice from JCP and Sears to think this is ok.

GG is the guy everyone loves to hate but I bet he relishes that. He is only too eager to poke people's eyes to make his point. He is the only survivor in the last 6 years of musical chairs in AS.

Sabre AS sales org is old and tired. The recent new blood in Sales is golf buddies of the old farts. Time to get some new sales and marketing folks from other airlines. Sabre can pretend to be a technology company but it is really an airline company with no planes. That's how they think and have operated for decades.
