Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Why it matters to lay people off fairly

It would be nice if management read this, it makes a good point on why laying people off fairly benefits the company itself (since we know they don't care about us maybe that would change some things.)

Don’t worry GE will not do this fairly. If you’re lucky you’re GE manager and HR representative (that you have never met) will have you report to a conference room and the manager will read a statement directly from a prepared paper that the lawyers put together. It will be cold and deliberately make you feel like you meant nothing to the company regardless of how many years you served the General. Then depending on service you will be told your last day. They will expect you to transition your work to a replacement. Hopefully the manager has done this before and you do not get an appointment on your calendar in the morning that states “Private and Confidential” “Do not Discuss”- and the meeting is scheduled for late in the afternoon. This is another way that GE management and HR likes to make employees squirm.
