Layoffs at Western Digital came down today. The number I heard was 1000 at the various US sites.
Now that they have already announced right sizing, any idea about impact on eHDD (HGST)?
When do the layoffs start in WD San Jose?
Is it going to a large number of people in various organizations?
Too many directors and managers.
This is the beat place to work. Coming in at 11 and leaving before 4:00 on most days. My manager does the same. Nothing to do just going to meetings to waste time. I love this place

You don't actually expect a WD COO/CEO to respond to your question, do you? I don't believe that WD executives would ever lurk here. As to the second part of your question, I did not see any rampant nepotism during my time there.
Do husband lay off wife and family member in WD ? Can COO or CEO respond my question ? I never see this in IBM old day ! WD HR do nothing.
WDC does layoffs in good market and bad market.
Most engineers do nothing. My group has not produced anything new in last 5 years. When lowering cost is needed in the books, WDC cuts both teams and lowers bonuses. It has done this in both good storage market and bad just to balance numbers!
It's a free country. If you do not like the way WD conducts its business, it's probably time to apply somewhere else. Layoffs will continue as long as demand for storage is soft to keep the balance sheet in order. Any free cash-flow will be used to buy back shares. I must say, when I was at WD, work was always demanding and WD has also always been generous with paying out bonuses. It's a good place to work as long as it lasts.
WDC runs on layoffs! Its usual business to change cost models in accounting. The bonus structure is the same at WDC. Easy way to bring costs down. Very few engineers produce anything new. Most are just cost burdens and can be reduced at any time.

Can someone provide more detail on the layoff list of separation date Feb 09, 2019? How many? Which sites?
