Laugh all you want about talks on targeting. I was there when they mention they were the the Hispanic community with their marketing efforts. And when the admissions reps knew that the parents had no social security number, they knew they hit the jackpot because that was an automatic PLUS override, automatic unsub loan increase and automatic proprietary loan eligibility. An easy way to fill in their admission rep quotas. The ladt I remember, policy changed and reps were no longer eligible for bonuses per student starting and instead turned it into keep your job per students starting. On the other hand, reps got their bonuses per students graduating. The pressure was high and targeting happened.
UTI totally s---s and has a bad reputation I the industry trust me. However I laugh at folks talking about targeting. Wake the F up..all colleges do this. $ year colleges offer students diversity scholarship coupons but at end of day they are in debt. This whole debt tall is laughable as whatever you graduate with makes you more marketable than a Hs grad.
Targeting high school students. Let's be honest, UTI for the past few years was looking at targeting the Hispanic community. I wouldn't be surprised if this surge of high school students are mostly Hispanic kids with parents who don't know there are other more cost effective education options. But, it's easier (and makes admission reps happy) when the parents are ineligible for the parent plus loan and these 18 year olds can get $29,000-$35,000+ in federal and the proprietary loan. Do these 18 year olds understand what it means to graduate with a certificate (not even a degree in most campuses) with 30,000 in debt? I do forget, there's the TRIP program so these kids think someone else is going to pay back their loans. Certainly, this increase is a victory to UTI to their admission reps, to the financial aid advisors and management but I ask them how can they sleep at night knowing they're contributing to s--- high debt! I could sleep at night and left, because when I had two students (one who was heartbroken to know his federal/private loan repayments were going to be between $300 a month and another student who took out the full $12500 federal loan, $20,000 in house private loan and on top of that had to make $200 a month payments) I had enough. I found out I wasn't really helping these kids and made my plan to exit. I feel bad for these students. Sometimes I feel bad for UTI employees (like the instructors and others who have no control over the debt students and parents get into). But, I don't feel sorry for management, the executives, the admission reps or financial aid people. How many more loans do they have to see kids signs before waking up. Same goes to every other employee of for-profit/high cost colleges.
Here us the issue.
UTI is targeting high school kids. Most of these kids are not prepared to enter the workforce. They lack professionalism and are not even prepared to learn a profession. UTI does nothing to help them. They coddle them and give them every chance in the world to complete school. They do it for the money. These students then graduate and try to enter the workforce. They act like entitles childeren and fail. They want to push back on everything. Some blame the generation and thats fine but it does not work in the real world.
An example, they are allowed 7 tarties or late shows in 3 weeks. Every three weeks this resets. They can take a day off with zero notification. No call, no show. Try showing up late to work 7 times in three weeks I will fire you. No call, no show? You dont have a job when you return. Done.
UTI need to teach them this or they will fail. Period. I am not giving some kid a chance to learn this on my dime. I dont have the time and my customers depend on my techs being at work.
Local tech schools do so much better with this. They are prepared and ready to work. UTI, go back to what made you a success or you will fail.
