Thread regarding Micron Technology Inc. layoffs

Here we go.

Steve Appleton must be rolling in his grave. We used to lay off only during the most severe downturns, and only after the CEO took no pay, and then after we trimmed a few % off our own paychecks so that others could continue to receive one. Not anymore. Record profits and management decides that a certain percentage of high quality people must be punished all the while we continue to hire.

Morale is destroyed and teams ripped apart, but it must look good for management bonuses and that is all that matters now.

I have nothing else to add, these comments are spot on. Karma is a %&*$% though. The micron name is quickly losing value.

I was laid off with 3 out of 5 or better performance rating. So the rating doesn't mean $&%$. You still might lose your job.

Micron is in the process of silently laying off 8%. If your annual performance rating is 1 out of 3, or 1 or 2 out of 5 (depends on the area you are in). Then you are given an option to take a severance package or go on PSP for 90 days to improve. Severance could be up to 12 weeks (over 10 years) and any vacation balance you have.

PSP requires you you to meet the stated requirements in 90 days or you are gone with nothing except you vacation balance.

I remember the down times when Steve was around and everyone worked harder. Our paychecks were smaller during the downturns and no one ever complained about it. Management even came down to the floor and worked to help out with a smile.

This is the reason why Micron weathered the bad downturns and survived. It is these key people who gave up so much that Micron is letting go right now. The next big storm(s) it is going to be harder of Micron to survive, but the only thing corporate cares about is getting rich as fast as possible at this point.

My question is why and how can this be legal? These guys are driving brilliant people out the door, lots who are not getting laid off but leaving to other companies for less pay just so they will be treated better.
