Duke Energy is eliminating a THIRD of their nuclear engineering organization across the company by year end 2018. Executive stock options don't grow if the dividend does not grow. Electricity demand is flat. Solar, wind and gas are either subsidized or cheap. Only one option left to support the stock price: cut labor to the bone. So that's what they're doing. They'll try to keep the nuclear plants running this way until it either works, safety suffers and the NRC steps in to shut down nuclear plants, or it's still not enough cost savings and they'll have to shut down some of the nuclear plants anyway.
