Thread regarding CA Technologies (CA Inc.) layoffs

Open Letter to Bike Boy

Dear Bike Boy:

As we mourn the passing of our real leader Charles, I’m left to think about you and what you did for CA during your time with us. Your time was never truly dedicated to making CA a great company. From the moment you arrived, it was evident that you weren’t committed. One of your former executives tells the story that even during your first week of employment you didn’t complete a full work week.

You were a part time CEO, too busy with all your extra circular bike riding, skiing and using CA’s private jet to take vacations. It is rumored that you were on vacation for more than 12 weeks this year. Not sure if that is true or not but based on the lights being on in your office, you probably took off way more than that.

The people you brought to help CA were failures. Not one of them made CA a better place. You keep talking about how you brought CA back to growth but wasn’t CA 4.6 billion when Bill left. You spent what , 2 billion in acquisitions and another 1 billion in marketing and the company shrunk.

You complained about the work ethic of the CA people but if you look in the mirror you know you never worked that hard and never completed a dull work week in 6 years. Post your badge reports for the whole world to see if I am laying.

You are not a nice person. You were always only concerned about yourself. You removed people like Adam, Rich and Amy because they knew you for the fraud that you truly are. I hope you can forgive yourself for all the harm you causes others even before the Broadcom acquisition. You are truly a sad person with a low self esteem. An earlier post explains why you are so insecure and makes sense now that I’ve learned of your “shortcomings”.

Best of luck to you, hopefully you have enough money that you won’t get he opportunity to do this to another great group of people.

Mike did what he could, given a stagnant company and years of mismanagement that would have eventually killed CA outright. He made tough decisions that others were unable to, including leaning down a bloated organization hierarchy. Yes, people lost jobs but in the end CA came out more modern and with potential.

It's too bad he eventually sold the company. I still think Mike could have grown the business with a little more work. Objectively, he was a pretty solid CEO once you take off your nostalgia goggles and loosen up on the butthurt.

I worked under all 6 CEO's at CA and met them all.

Charles - cut-throat but CA was in his DNA. He played to win. Also cared about CA employees (often at the expense of acquired employees who were termed day one)

Sanjay - good guy but made the mistake of trying to hide things from the government which landed him in jail. And in my opinion pretty full of himself which also hurt. But a great speaker and passionate about CA.

Cron - interim, didn't really do anything good or bad.

Swainson - came across as rumpled and a bit confused, but knew the products and could discuss them. Probably hired to be a counter to Sanjay's slickness.

McCracken - called "grandpa" behind his back by the ELT, seemed more interested in financial engineering and bringing in IBM cronies. Made some big mistakes in my view that cost the company.

Gregoire - talked a good talk at first, then basically seemed to mail it in. Tried to turn CA into a Silicon Valley company which was the wrong direction.

bike boy represent the perfect example of crony capitalism....he made millions for himself and laid off almost 3K/4K people since this a--hole arrived and took the wheels...how many families he destroyed in his tenure....all in the name of trimming and making business profitable...kept bragging about the need to employ new skills resources......

He was pathetic, the worst CEO. I always go back to his performance at an investor conference last year. Over the course of half an hour he babbled about modern software Factory and devops with absolutely no content for 10 minutes, and then went on and on about stem education, charity, the environment, and other c-ap. I doubt he even knew what the products did. At least other bad CEOs I've had er were trying, they just made bad decisions. This guy was such an empty suit, and so transparent that he was willing to spend millions of dollars to fulfill his dream of riding in the Tour de France car. I mean, please, point of one good thing that he did during his entire tenure. Marketing was a joke, the crowning achievement changing the logo to Black and White. Products that were selling like ehealth were jerked around, Next Generation plan started then halted then started then halted, and the whole business driven into the ground. Acquisitions we're done in such a way to anger all of the people who are needed at those companies, and then you end up hollowed out. I think some of the GMs brought in were trying to do the right thing. Too late, though.

He has 50 million reasons why he doesn’t care. He will go back to Los Altos or some other wealthy part of Silicon Valley and take a break before getting hired again. It’s how it all works.

God I still love the term "Bike Boy". Most CEO's do what he did to this company, he's a used car salesman looking for his pot of gold after the big sale. Is what it is, move on!

Sounds like something a person would write to their ex who dumped them.
