AB is excellent as chairman — at that level, every decision is an investment decision, and no one knows the economics of semiconductor fabrication better than AB.

PSO was the right CEO at the right time. All technology firms evolve from technology advances driving the business (take what we build) to marketing driving the business (what do you need and we’ll build it). PSO performed that transition well; his platform strategy was exactly what was needed at the time. Now his lack of engineering background may have contributed to him turning down Apple twice.

I find it hard to believe that BK fomented a coup against PSO. PSO died just a couple of years after he retired, suggesting there was some undisclosed health issue. It was bad timing, as the succession planning had all gone to hell. Clearly, PSO wanted Sean Maloney to succeed him — but then Maloney had a stroke.

Intel was founded by a super genius and two geniuses — Noyce, Moore, and Grove. It turned out they could focus their genius on management and excel at that as well.

Subsequent CEOs have not been geniuses.

Roots for current problems were laid by PSO - filling managerial and leadership ranks with talkers and keeping engineering talent stuck to the bottom.

AB needs to look in the mirror and ask himself, what the f*** am I still doing here, and retire with his motorola flip phone and let someone who actually cares about technology to assume chair of the BoD.

I think pso did pretty good all things considered with the exception of mobile which was a huge miss. But in all likelihood even if he’d jumped on the iPhone bandwagon it’s likely intel would not have been able to execute and/or apple would have dumped intel for a homegrown chip anyways. I mean just look at all our so called socs compared to Q.

Amazing failure of the BoD with three stooges CRB, PSO and the clown BK. What a sad ending after three iconic titans Robert, Gordon and Andy, next clown from BoD?

RE is a little loose on facts - he thinks SS is female, and he talks about BK's 'division' not doing so well - BK was COO at the time of CEO transition, and head of TMG before that. Still, it's not a bad read and far better than all the other stuff being posted here these days.
