Thread regarding CA Technologies (CA Inc.) layoffs

No talent left at CA

Honestly, anyone in the US still at CA is there because of life/work balance (which has been great) or a complete lack of skills or talent to go anywhere else (you’re a no talent hack with zero skills).

Most people in the US are in the second category.

This is your kick in the pants! Too many lazy and incompetent people have been coddled for too long! Supposedly technical people that cannot code or troubleshoot their way out of a soggy paper bag with holes in it. Good riddance.

Me too. Life at CA is so d@mned boring. A trained monkey could do most jobs here. But I stay because it beats working for a living. And I like being the smartest one in the organization. But that really is not too difficult.

That's what I have liked about CA. I had plenty of time to train myself on technical skills because it was easy to do a day's work in 6 hours and spend 2 hours on skills training. I got paid to learn!

Life at CA was too easy. I’m in support. I really wasn’t challenged technically ( just a lot of b---s--- busy work ). I know once I go somewhere else, there is no cruise control. I will actually have to know my sh--. I’m looking forward to it.

I always ran circles around mgmt because they had no idea what I was talking about.

I taught myself to code and dba and a lot of other stuff over the years. But my job didn’t push me to learn anything technical, except for sh--ty product difference training. Mgmt always had us focus on some horseshit pet project from some clueless director or manager .. someone’s “bright idea”. Managers should be highly technical in support. There are way too many useless people in support that will be in hot water trying to perform at a new job.

For me it's the severance and RSUs. If they let me go I can almost pay off my mortgage...

@VKuapDG-1qlf agreed. There are some talented people left in the Agile BU for whatever reason - RSUs, severance too tempting given years of service, belief in the product, etc. But a lot of the best people left earlier. So there are a lot of people who are, shall we say, less competitive in the market as well.

I figure the talent comment is both correct and not. Sure there are some super talented people left, that for whatever reason are still there. But if you look at the overall organization as a whole i feel the technical talent level at CA is much lower than in point competitors focused on a single addressable market. This is exasperated with the number of people leaving in the past few months. I was one of the folks ousted in May, and in my new role everyone around me is truly amazing - where it felt I was "the guy" people went to for everything in my CA tenure.

Enjoying life much more now that I am with others that have equal to or better than mine.

Including the OP, I'd bet.

@VKuapDG-xyp I mean, he's not wrong. The level of talent in R&D has been abysmal for the last couple years, especially in US offices. I remember CA ran initiative a few years ago to bring in college grads for developer positions… How many of those who are hired are still around? Or better yet, how many top performers stay with the company long-term? I certainly don't have the answers, but based on what I hear it's not too many.

And by the way, where did OP claim that he's better than everyone?

I agree, this a nasty arrogant post from someone who has “issues”.

I know at this point most still at CA are competent. If they haven’t left it is because of severance or feel they can make a difference.

What is your problem , poster?

Really easy to be nasty when it's anonymous ain't it buddy? I'm not from the US, but you got a big ego problem if you think you're better than everyone there
