PIP

Has anybody at Chesapeake survived being put on PIP? Or should I just pack my bags right now?

When you had your meeting was it your boss, or was it your boss and the business partner, or was it your boss and the goober with the red sports car?

PIP before a RIF is easy pickings. It’s coming and regardless if you make it through the PIP or not your most likely gone. That being said continue to work through it while staring to look. If a RIF does happen you will get severance and be two steps ahead of the others let go. There is life after and most find its pretty darn good.

Chances are if your on a PIP that is the first process for them punting you out the door. If there was a RIF coming up they wouldnt even mess with the PIP and would just let you go in the RIF. If there is no RIF in the near future the PIP is the paperwork trail they need to push you out. My advice to you would be to immediately start looking and have a plan when HR comes to your office.

PIP/No PIP, it doesn’t matter. In my time there I seen people with PIPs get promoted.

Me on the other hand, never placed on a PIP. Had three meets expectations evaluations & two exceeds evaluations and was let go in the last layoff. Turns out it was the best thing to ever happen to me.

The job market is booming and the BS in my work life went down 99.99%. Heck getting laid off may have added years to my life.

Point is the paperwork doesn’t matter. It’s a matter of if your manager wants you gone or not.

So the individual is posting on this site saying that anyone posting on this should be on a PIP. So was that self declaration that they too should be on a PIP? Asking for a friend?

Here comes a RIF. They are about to thin the herd, my friend. You are a patsy for your bosses preferred employee. That is the groundwork for middle management to control who is first picked to join the open market.

Dust off your resume.

Some have passed or met the requirements of the PIP. To be candid, a PIP is a documentation process so you have no way of disproving the employer had a role in why your employment was terminated. At best, you keep your job, but your bonus is half or less than typical. If your supervisor is trustworthy and you know that they will work with you I would say just do your work well and survive. The leaders at CHK are trained in "Leader Boot Camp" and it is here where they are coached to maintain records (very common everywhere) to how each one on one goes, how you respond to situations/mistakes and so on. These are all referenced in your final warning. If your performance is noticed by someone with influence - kiss your rear goodbye.

Here is the silver lining, the job market is great. If your boss likes you, it's all good. Best of luck with your situation. Don't forget to spend all of your points in the store before you leave.

If your on a PIP, then management probably finds value in you and just wants you to succeed. If they didn’t find you valuable, they would just offer no feedback and let you self destruct. Then they would swoop in and snatch you like an eagle snatching a field mice when the RIF comes around in 10-18 months. You won’t even see it coming.

I don't know, Doug, maybe you should finally just pack your bags and go. Maybe your brother will hire you, too.

The last person I know that was on a PIP was promoted to an advisor in a different department. Probably making more money, as messed up as things are here you may want to hang in here and possibly get a promotion. I heard one guy fetched coffe at Anadarko and is now a ops manager. There may still be hope for you.
