That acquisition is proceeding as planned. So all this 'what if" talk is delusional, November 5th you will either get your walking papers, stay on transition or be hired full-time but that CFIUS sh-- is all political. Nothing will come of it!

Does someone really think Broadcom is going to “bring in talent” ? That is a joke...Broadcom barely hires anyone ever, the acquire a company then fire or divest more than half of it. There will be nothing invested n been technologies or innovation, no training for remaining employees. If you help generate high profits they will give you more , better performing stock than CA did.

CA doesnt need good developers, we need cheap ones. We're a software sales company, not a software development company.

@VEEz4pB-1hra CA engineering is basically comprised of dead end developers who are just riding things out until retirement. The few talented ones either bailed out or are now just as demotivated as the rest. They all s--- a-- and you know it.

Perfect chance for Broadcom to bring im some real talent.

...And this is the EXACT outcome when CA doesn’t innovate, buys companies and guts them entirely, CA never did the right thing with software engineering. All they did was cut, cut, cut. The sales guy yapping talking about the developers are CA can’t code, news flash you mo--n, there were barely any software engineers there.

@VEEz4pB-mlj That sounds worse than death. Nothing worse than liberals running wild.

No need to worry about health insurance or even a job. After the Democrats have their Blue Wave(tm) next month, everything will be free!

@VEEz4pB-efs This is why CA got sold: you developers couldn't code your way out of a paper bag. Nerds.

You're selfish because you're more concerned with the announcement making you feel upset than you are concerned with CA doing the legally proper thing. You think they should modify the dates of open enrollment to make you feel better. Millennials, I tell ya.

@VEEz4pB-snx, they were legally obligated to post this and to start the open enrollment process. There are rules regarding this period that all companies that participate in insurance have to follow. If the merger is stalled or cancelled the company could not just let everyone's insurance lapse(though some here would love it). Until the ink is dry they have to have at least a contingency plan in place.

11/12 is only start of enrollment. You can always extend the duration of enrollment period whatever necessary. Don't see how selfishness is relevant here at all.

Posting an announcement on 11/5 for open enrollment starting on 11/12 would not be sufficient notice.

So many selfish people here.

If this were a normal acquisition, they would have extended CA benefits for another year. But that isn’t the most cost effective thing to do.

So to squeeze every penny out of the merger, employees are asked to bend over backwards by delaying open enrollment and possiblly enrolling twice, thought at least they will know if they’ll have a job at this point.

@VEEz4pB-sul. They should not have posted this announcement in the first place, to avoid confusion. Will Broadcom honor, for survivors, all those CA type benefits if deal goes forward? I don't think so. Broadcom is a different company with its own benefit plans. Therefore it makes sense only if deal doesn't go forward or delayed. But in that unlikely case the enrollment announcement can be posted on Nov 5 when it will definitely make sense!

"Ok, how about this: for those who will have perished it'll be irrelevant (dead don't care), lucky ones will survive only to witness a cancellation of enrollments (and other benefits). Better now?"

Sure but so what? The question remains. What did you expect CA to do? Only send the open enrollment email to the survivors?

You all missing the timing on the dates. 11/12 is 33 days after Rand Paul sent his formal request for CFIUS review. CFIUS process has 30-45 days if accepted to review with with answer. That falls right within the time frame for open enrollment. If enrolled goes through assume CFIUS has an impact on the direction taken by mgmt.

Don't be absurd.

What if the acquisition was delayed until March 2019?

What should CA do? Let everyone's insurance lapse January 1st?

If the deal closes then CA open enrollment will be cancelled but if it doesn't close, it needs to go forward in time for us all to have insurance in the meantime!

Some of you are seriously naive. Of course it will be a bloodbath but the open enrollment has nothing to do with that. The only connection is changing the dates so it will be easier to cancel if they need to.

Notice that Nov 12 is a exactly a week later than Nov 5. I know what's going to happen. Nov 5-12 week will be a damn bloody m---acre. Only those who survive the bloodbath will be able to enroll for benefits.

Here is your answer, @VEEz4pB-hyn :

"If takeover = true then ignore e-mail"

  • in most languages, "=" indicates assignment while "==" is used for comparison. Therefore takeover is true and I should ignore the email. But you are missing an 'else' on the next line, meaning I execute it regardless...

"If you.layoffstate = true then ignore email"

  • once again, "=" is an assignment operator, which sets 'you.layoffstate' to true

"Else"

  • code will never be executed

"Though I don’t know how to determine my own layoff state"

  • see above

They need to plan for the acquisition to be delayed or fail. It would be irresponsible not to have open enrollment.

We are a software company perhaps they should code this if information for us

If takeover = true then ignore e-mail

If you.layoffstate = true then ignore email

Else

Sign up for CA benefits for undetermined time

Though I don’t know how to determine my own layoff state

Because VEEz4pB-qfy we are about to be laid off, or at least half of us! it's a bit insulting actually, since the email didn't contain any info we needed to know right now. I think employment, or lack thereof, is more important.

why not?

you should know that, this information is important. and for every CA current employee to know what to expect.

Seriously I don't understand what are you laughing about.
