Thread regarding Micron Technology Inc. layoffs

The next round is here.

Reviews are happening now but they are just the usual micron smoke and mirrors to hide lay offs. Poor reviews are given then the person is given a choice to take a severance package or go on 90 day probationary period to meet their un attainable goals. If not met, bye bye. You got to love that management preaches that the people are everything as they c-ap on you. Go micron....down the toilet.

Haha.. I am laughing. I left Micron as a 5.0 and promised tech 4. The were going to make me tech 4 at a wage tech 3 were making. I walked and my manager called me back 3 weeks later. He said name your price. I chewed him out and said good luck dude. I make 6 more dollars an hour than I did at Micron after 9 years. I have only worked at this company for about 4 years. Work load is half. Stress is about %30. I suggest you all leave before they house you in dorms with s–c-de nets under the windows.

This "probation" thing is an insult to the hard working employees that have worked so hard over the years to help build this company. Create a new standard that puts performing everyday employees in a stressful bind so the company can pretend they have an excuse to fire you. "You have always been a good employee, but now that we have made up a new numbers game of evaluation we are probably going to fire you because we have decided to now call you an "under performer" This company is telling us to leave. Listen to them and save yourself some heartache. You can't win when they have rigged the game.

I couldn't agree more. I was also let go. They will use any excuse to get rid of you - especially long term employees. Trust me, you will not be retiring from Micron. There is life after Micron - and it is better.

I was walked out the door 2 years ago after 31 years. Received an award for my outstanding performance the week before than escorted out for sending a personal email. It has been a c-ap company with no loyalty to employees after Steve died. There is life after Micron and I am glad to be gone from that place!!!

I suspect MU doesn't want laid off employees signing up for unemployment insurance because that increases the company's UI premiums. If an employee takes the severance option, then it becomes a voluntary separation, like quitting, in the eyes of the state unemployment office, and the employee becomes ineligible for UI benefits. If the employee struggles through the 90 day probation only to get canned at the end of it, then he/she will be eligible for UI. But MU probably hopes and wagers the employee will quit before the end of the 90 days, thereby invalidating a UI claim.

The start to this begun about two years ago and it is now just gaining traction. Hopefully anyone who is forced to leave is ready for it as we have been getting warned for about ten years now that this is not a place people will be retiring from. To the individuals receiving Tech pay and up be prepared to take a 50% pay cut unless you want to move or get into the medical field.

Bad thing is if a bunch of people get let go all around the same time there will be tons of people putting in for the same job when they only need one person.

I thought the large cuts were happening at the start of the new year and that Micron was going to be nice and keep everyone paid during the holidays?

I left two years ago and things have really been different for me after spending more than half my life with Micron. I could not be happier to be gone, but really miss everyone I worked with except the liar managers.

Good luck but you are going to be fine! Take some time off and enjoy yourself as it might be a long time until you get a day off once you get hired again.

@VA3ek2O-wst - were you one of the people who were fired and then replaced by a Phillipino citizen brought over to Boise?

This is going to be a yearly event. It is designed not just to purge under performers but to keep everyone else performing at top level hoping they are not next. Don't even bother trying to feel secure, no one is immune, they will purge 8% each year, sooner or later everyones number will be up. My midyear review was stellar, I'll be walked out the door this month after over 30 years.

This maybe a "global exercise" but you obviously either don't work here or you are management here. If someone is underperforming, address the issue as an adult don't hide behind your mommy's skirt.

This is a global exercise. Do not know whether is this a yearly event? If it is, this is call a yearly purging. Purge those that are under perform.
