Thread regarding Kmart layoffs

Will any Kmart stores survive?

What do you think? Will any Kmart stores survive half a billion losses or are we about to go the way of dinosaurs?

I know there's still quite a few stores to go, but I think Eddie will focus on Sears rather than Kmart in the last months or years of the company.

But that's just how I see it...

3zop: When SHLD finally goes bankrupt, I hope they arrange to sell the Guam store to WalMart or Target or someone. Because where else are they gonna go?

@V9EtQzL-3zop Sure that one is successful BECAUSE THERE IS NOTHING ELSE

There is literately nothing else on that island. So yeah, of course it would be successful.

@3mog You're absolutely right. The Guam store is a world unto it's own and the most profitable by far. There have been national and business articles written about it many times. Our former Footwear DM had the store in his district. He would come back and say there was nothing like it. He would spend 3 to 5 days there every quarter. Amazing .

The most profitable store has always been Guam

I'm surprised we haven't heard an announcement for Kmart to be fully shut down at this point. I've mentioned before that SHLD closed the most profitable store in the chain here in my town early this past January. I was worried when it got spun off to Seritage, and rightfully so. The same thing happened with our busy local Sears (also spun off to Seritage.) All this garbage about closing "unprofitable" locations is nothing but lies. There is no real transformation plan, just a plan to siphon off what he can before shutting it all down and walking away with the best parts still in tact in a new configuration that profits him.

The current count is about 360 stores left. That isn't very much, is it? Way I see it, as I have always said, Sears will probably be more of a priority to keep going longer than Kmart. Where as Eddie probably sees Kmart as a blemish of sorts that he wants to remove but he knows if he perhaps removes it too quickly it will cause a bit more bleeding than he's able to handle. Also, he's trying to look like a "good guy" saying they are trying "hard as hell" to keep both of them alive but a lot of us know the real truth.

He isn't going to save either of them, he is just using them to help fatten up his own personal gain. All he wants in the end is the real estate and the IPs (i,e, Kenmore/Diehard/Craftsman) so he can make a nice profit off of them. Ever since he has taken over back in 2013 he has not done anything to help this company grow.

As for Kmart's future, I would expect maybe another round of closures coming up before the end of this year. If not then probably a bunch more after the holiday season because my gut feeling is after Christmas is over, all bets are off on Kmart and they'll probably be fully gone by 2019.
