Thread regarding Guitar Center layoffs

Being professional is what makes sales

Being cool is fun, but being professional is what makes sales. They could reduce the kids working there and hire people with degrees in music and business. They miss alot of sales because they are "hanging out". Don't get me wrong. I hang out when I'm there, but I also notice families and people who don't know anything that need assistance. No one is helping them because they are hanging out and being cool. That has to change. Your best sales may not come from someone in a band. Treat everyone equal.

I see the product line broadening. Staff has to match the skills. It's important to attract a diverse market. Help everyone. Stop letting everyone tear up the equipment. If you want to play an instrument, you need to be serious about purchasing it. All the pre-madonna's with no skills need to put headphones on. Those of us purchasing would like to actually hear what we are doing and we don't need to do it at 10. Stop the disrespect and show the customers the product. Great store. Thought of working there, but I could never afford to work for commission.

The SOS stand for Same old s. You can replace s, Service. It can also be a call for help. It's been years since you guys been in business you're been greedy and arrogant and has caught up. Other businesses are in play, or on the rises ( and/or on the NET) there's plenty of places to shop. The word on the street your online sales attempt boarders on bait and switch/ cash grab lawsuit. In fact, most of the time I'm in the store.. most customers are just walking around HOPING to not finding the product. Because you don't carry it anymore. I can make a guitar pick. Hence, why your sales staff doesn't take the customer seriously. Your sales rep. know the same. No variety of products anymore. Hard to sale a product you don't have. You miss a lot of good sales. And really has turned into the Walmart. Which is fine for the kid's. Upgrade your stores with professional equipment, the return will transpose into professional sales. It's just a matter of time.

it is really sad that this corporation is responsible for the livelihoods of so many low level earners and have simply furloughed them with no effort to embrace the society's commitment to sustain them through these CoVid times. Our local employees were given two weeks stipend and simply told that's it... as a customer and business owner myself, i can afford to purchase and enjoy the musical products and accordingly, develop relationships with hard working associates that have committed themselves to GC.. That Commitment has not been returned to them and its sad. it is obvious that the corporation has completely leveraged itself upside-down by the greed of its owners and stockholders and has nothing to fall back on when times are tough.. with thousands of stores and hundreds of thousands of trusting manufacturers of musical gear trusting them, GC will simply claim insolvency at the expense of employees and others like Gibson, Fender, PRS, and others. Such a Shame...
GC, Do the right thing, Pull up your boot straps, pay your folks, change your business model for the better and become the great company you really want to be

They had great, knowledgeable, professional people who were musicians and loved their jobs. They got rid of all of them because they didn't want to continue paying good commissions. I was fired for calling out a manager who was having an affair with another employee's wife while the employee was deployed over seas. The manager starting finding things wrong with what I did and after 8 years I was fired. However, they would have found a way as I grandfathered in under the old commission structure and they hated that. I was also full time with benefits which they also hate.
