Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Why?

Why are they hiring all these new asms If they plan on purging them like the co managers. They cant be getting rid of many and replacing them with support since they just cut a support position not that long ago. I can see the apm getting the front end then loosing 1 assistant. But it cant be anything like the cos. Why are they spending money sending people to the academy just to get rid of them.

Thanks! I was thinking the cap was higher than that for the older ones

That pay for the new associate is the trainee pay. Trainees are hourly and paid less than full ASMs. The max pay for ASMs is much higher than the 5% of 48.5k but the point being missed is that the old cap was only like 50ish. Almost all ASMs moved up to the new 48.5 during the raise two years ago. No adjustment was given for time in position. So current ASMs have, at most, two years of raises on the new folks. Regardless of the decades they may have been in position.

We just had an associate go into the program for AM. She said her starting pay is about $41400.00 yr. She will get a 5% raise at 6 months. Just going by what she told me.

What is the cap for an ASM? Definitely more than 5% of 48.5. There's hundreds of not thousands of ASMs throughout the company that have just been sitting for years and years just hanging out.

Any suspicions about getting cheaper paid ASMs are pretty moot. After the big pay bump to 48.5 most ASMs are making the same amount. Others are at most 5% higher in pay.

I'm guessing here but I think the plan is to bring in new people making way less than the asst mngrs that have been in the job for many years and have no plans to move up. In my store we have 4 ASM'S that have been ASM'S for over ten years. ASM position is for those that want to move up in the company. By never moving up, they are preventing those that do want to move up from doing so. Those long term ASM'S are c-apping themselves right now. They dont want to move up but also dont want to work hard either. Should be interesting to see how it plays out. I'm guessing just like the co's. The favorites will stay and the actual hard workers will be the ones demoted. SMH 🤔
