I drank the cool aid. When the sale was concluded last October, I was so excited. What a great concept to have DCF take over a college system and expand the mission of DCF to include higher education. I thought (and preached to my fellow Phoenix employees) that DCEH was going to be something special. We were going to establish a model for online education with a unique culture for both students and staff. From the senior executive staff, I got a nod about this idea.
Unfortunately, my vision and excitement for how DCEH would evolve was way off base. Considering that DCEH is now owned and ultimately controlled by DCF, my faith in DCF is gone. I actually terminated my volunteer work at the Phoenix DC today.
There is ZERO transparency at DCEH. Morale among staff is deplorable. Everyone is afraid for their jobs. Layoffs of EDMC people were inevitable. We all knew that. But the way this is going down is not right. To intentionally create a culture of fear in the hopes of increasing performance is antithetical to the alleged values of a Christian ministry. I guess at the end of the day Tommy is only interested in DCEH as a revenue stream. There is a lot of money being spent in in computer infrastructure and metrics tracking but precious little investment in staff.
All this smoke and mirrors with Exeter, Woz U, not teaching-out closed AI programs and screwing all those students out of the investment they have already made is unconscionable. So much for “Find a need and fill it – Find a hurt and heal it” I say b---s---. As usual, this is all about the money.
