Thread regarding Dream Center Education Holdings, LLC (DCEH) layoffs

To Brent, John & mostly Tommy Barnett,

I drank the cool aid. When the sale was concluded last October, I was so excited. What a great concept to have DCF take over a college system and expand the mission of DCF to include higher education. I thought (and preached to my fellow Phoenix employees) that DCEH was going to be something special. We were going to establish a model for online education with a unique culture for both students and staff. From the senior executive staff, I got a nod about this idea.

Unfortunately, my vision and excitement for how DCEH would evolve was way off base. Considering that DCEH is now owned and ultimately controlled by DCF, my faith in DCF is gone. I actually terminated my volunteer work at the Phoenix DC today.

There is ZERO transparency at DCEH. Morale among staff is deplorable. Everyone is afraid for their jobs. Layoffs of EDMC people were inevitable. We all knew that. But the way this is going down is not right. To intentionally create a culture of fear in the hopes of increasing performance is antithetical to the alleged values of a Christian ministry. I guess at the end of the day Tommy is only interested in DCEH as a revenue stream. There is a lot of money being spent in in computer infrastructure and metrics tracking but precious little investment in staff.

All this smoke and mirrors with Exeter, Woz U, not teaching-out closed AI programs and screwing all those students out of the investment they have already made is unconscionable. So much for “Find a need and fill it – Find a hurt and heal it” I say b---s---. As usual, this is all about the money.

lwk / V5h0MPR I'm with you -- I also drank that cool aid and was so excited to be part of what I thought was going to do good in the world - I just want to throw up.

I agree since EDMC was greedy but treated their employees with a level of fairness not seen at DCEH. DCEH makes EDMC seem like Mother Teresa.

EDMC and it's schools was always just a paycheck from a sh--ty establishment. No more, no less. If this was your bread and butter, you're an id--t. There was never any heart in any of it.

If you both want tl make peace with yourself , you can have a whisleblower case if you have information that would be valuable to shut down this place. Thousends of students with no job and thousends of miles in debt. You now are jobless and “dissapointed” but if you want to do a good

Deeds with the world after realizing you had been working for a bunch of crooks

I invite you to do your part and present a case against EDMC/DCEH. Join the cause , we cannot allow this type of companies to destroy families with their lies. Thank you

This was the most heartfelt and on point message I have ever read on this site. Reading it reinforced the inevitability of seriously starting steps to find my next career. I have considered it within the last few years but like you, I had great hope and belief that DCEH was going to be our answer and make this place strong, something we could be proud of and feel some sense of security. After a decade of being with EDMC and making a great matrix salary for a few of them, today will be the first time I have updated my resume with the purpose of something other than internal EDMC opportunities. No money can really offset the stress levels and emptiness of our new reality. I wish everyone the very best and hope we all find our places whether that means staying or leaving.
