I know the usual is two weeks, but I'd rather not tell my manager until I really have to. I want to make his life just a little bit more harder after the hell he put me through in the past several months.
Are there any repercussions I could face if I don't tell him until my very last day at HPE?
Zero is the answer, if you don't like your coworkers. 2 weeks and use up vacation, if you want play by the rules. 2 weeks+whatever vacation you have accrued, if you like your coworkers and boss.
The minimum notice is...none. It's just business, after all.

Yeah, tempting as it is to just leave, it's not considered professional. It's not like you're going to get a lot done those two weeks, and as others have suggested, you might get shown the door and get the two weeks of pay.
A friend was on his way to a customer once and got a call from his manager saying "There are layoffs today and you're on the list". He turned around and went home. I have to admit that this colors my impression of him somewhat: not his lack of commitment to the company, but to the customer. It isn't THEIR fault that your manager s---s.

Given that Oracle is desperately trying to switch from on prem Enterprise to cloud, that is unlikely to happen. Plus they already have Solaris, what would they do with HPUX? Maybe if Oracle gets it for free.

You'll be glad you treated them better than they treated you when you go to interview for a new job down the road and realize that the hiring manager doesn't think much of how you behave because of what he saw when you were at HPE (where he is also from).
I whole heartedly agree with 9bqu. Give them NO notice. Just stop going to work and they will figure it out. But I bet money it takes them longer than two weeks.

No matter how angry you are, always take the high road. Give your two weeks notice. You may not come back to HPE but your reputation for burning bridges will follow you. I was p-ss-d and had enough of HPE that I quit back in January. I dont intend to go back after 25 years in the company. I gave my 2 weeks notice after I got an offer from another company and left peacefully. Believe, there is nothing that will make me happy if HPE eventually runs to the ground or Oracle buys it only to kill the company.
Wait till about 2 weeks after you stop showing up to work. Not a thing to say. They are considered toxic references. ..

No doubt - if you think you will cross paths with anyone you might impact by giving only one days notice, I wouldn't do it. It' far better to manipulate the people you hate into giving you something ($$$) than to piss them off and get nothing other than satisfaction. The only reason most people work is for money. Do whatever you can to extract as much $$$ as possible and if that including blowing smoke up their tush, do it. Take the money. When it dries up, move on but make sure you don't burn a bridge. You might be working for them again in the future somewhere else.

Don’t be an *** about it and find some sort of revenge. Be professional: Give your 2 weeks, be happy as you look forward to your new job/life and don’t look back. Heck even HPE gives you the courtesy of a 2-week notice when they lay you off (severance or no severance)
There is really no reason to be mean about it. Sure, you may not go back to HPE. But your manager may leave and depending on your professional circle, you may have to interact with him or his friends in the future.
While i certainly understand the need to vent, I think burning bridges, for any reason, is counterproductive.
Bottom line, zero. HPE/Q and most companies will say nothing more than you worked there. No one person is going say that you only gave one day's notice. Now if you plan to go back in the future, you might want to give two weeks. Otherwise, zero. I'm out.
The proper way to give a notice is call your boss and say I would like to give my notice and when he says when will it be, you say I would like you to notice that I am not there and it will never come back and hang up the phone
For the U.S., legally, no notice is required. The two-week is customary; politeness, general way of doing business, etc. But if you are NOT in the U.S., please read the terms of your employment letter. In many countries, a notice period is required. If you do not serve out your notice period, you have to pay the employer your pay ... that's right. You pay money to get out of the door.
But why bother to hold on to the grudge in any case? Pity your boss who has to remain in the toxic environment (whether work or home) that's causing him/her to be the a-- that he/she is. You're getting out. Least you could do is to demonstrate superiority by being generous.

How long does it take you to get to the door? 30 seconds... Regardless of being RA'd or quiting, your blacklisted... Thats not a big deal, HPE is he!! hole... If you have PTO, take it and don't return... Thats even quicker... HPE won't be around much longer, so I wouldn't even think about re-applying...
Yes, I agree with the last poster, you do not want to look back at the hell hole once you leave. But it would apply for the rare cases where someone wants to join great company that just got acquired by HPE right before getting a job offer. This is really a rare situation, but is real.
Why would you want to get another job with HPE in the future? Don't succumb to Stockholm syndrome.

I agree with the previous comments. However if you try to get a job in HPE in the future, it is certainly going to bite you in the b*tt since they will have a notation in your internal records about the circumstances under which you left and that will always be the Manager's version of events.
I would say not all HPE managers are rotten. I have have worked under numerous managers and they fall on a continuum between Absolute rotten to so-so to good to better to close-to-best. The absolute rotten one caused so much grief in me that it affected my health permanently. That is how mean some of them can get.
None. HPE can only verify you worked for them. They cannot discuss any manner of your performance or how you left. I was laid off with an excellent relationship with manager. I asked him if I could use him as a reference. He said yes. Later, when I actually needed the endorsement, he came back and said HPE won't allow it. That's how most of the industry is these days.
If your boss is in the position to be able to bad-mouth you through the grapevine, to reach your next (or potential future-other) employer(s), then there may be a downside. But if not... Then no, there's no real downside. You might want to tell him (on your way out the door) WHY you gave him no notice, I would suggest. Also because of the generally rotten way that HPE managers treat just about ALL their employees, all the way down from uppermost Management On High!
