Job application question

What do you put down when you are filling out a job application where it asks if they can contact your current employee?

On one hand, saying no makes it seem like I have something to hide. On the other hand, saying yes puts me at risk of being laid off (or worse, fired) if they do call and my manager finds out I'm shopping around.

Been a while since I applied for a job, so any tips would be appreciated.

Feel free to write "no". Any smart staffing person understands why.

Never say ok to contact current employer. They understand that they should not put your current job at risk. It is just an opportunity, if you have a very close relationship with you current manager to provide extra current information. I have never ever ticked yes.

They ask permission before contacting current employee. Most likely last step after accepting an offer.
