Someone in IT had a good one that the executives are already on garden leave. I know of only 1 or 2 that are actually working like others said earlier and knowing those 3, they will continue to work until the end comes for them in November. The CDC closing is the first of many cuts for us. Let’s see how truly generous they are when it comes to equity. Not sure how that is even sustainable.

@SantaC, the cafeteria was smart when there were 2000 people in the building. Instead of having to go find lunch somewhere you could go downstairs, get food and be back at your desk in 15 minutes. Going out to get lunch is an hour minimum. Plus you could have meetings over lunch, conversations on line when getting lunch or paying. Whenever people from other cities or countries were in town visiting Islandia you would often catch up with them over coffee in the cafeteria.
The gains in productivity and communication far exceeded the costs.
I'm not offended it's just funny. I'm worried about my job too but I never got any such perks... we're lucky to have vending machines here
Its the beginning of them shutting down our building, sorry for being concerned about my job, I didnt mean to offend you with my perks. /s
Islandia ppl have no idea how lucky you have been (and how entitled you sound now).... most offices do not have a cafeteria or a gym or a CDC or fitness classes....
I recently heard that in the Islandia office, in addition to the CDC that the Cafeteria and the Gym will be closing by Dec 31st.
I don't see how they could be on paid leave just yet when the deal is just announced, not yet closed. It's possible that the US Dept of Justice could block the move. Unlikely, but possible.
More likely they're just goldbricking rather than being on formal "garden leave".
The CDC was something at risk for a long time. None of the ELT either have kids (young enough or at all) or have both spouses working so they can't relate. They are elitists living out of CT who dreaded commuting to NYC, much less Islandia. The CDC was amazing for my family around a dozen or so years ago when it was needed. Too bad.
