Bill Ruh might soon retire (or be retired). It will be impossible for him to find a job after the GED disaster, so he might write a book following Beth Comstock example. I thought we could help him with a catchy title. Something like “Burn $4B in 5 years... who say you can’t” “Make them buy your BS in 5 easy steps” “The 7 habits of highly despicable people” Any suggestion???

The only good writing by Bill Ruh is the emails he sends out announcing another leader leaving GE.

He won’t write a book. He’ll make an InsideGE post and then retroactively IBS charge everyone that red is $600, then talk about how much revenue his articles brought in at the next all hands.

Yup. Agree 100%. Can’t execute. Which is ironic, given all the emphasis on execution of the plan at GE. Bill never seemed to have a tight group of alter egos to fill in his deficiencies. He was left with trying to lead by explaining his vision and cheerleading. We see the results, or lack of them, now.
First off let me be clear I am not a GE fan nor am I a Ruh fan... with that stated I have to give credit to Ruh’s vision around where he thought the industry could go. Now his organizational design and execution will be a case study for years at HBR on what not todo. The man had vision but could not execute to save his life. I read that as he was too high up in the org model and needed some to help him execute. He needed to stop constantly focusing on the vision which is several years out in perpetuity.
