Thread regarding Dream Center Education Holdings, LLC (DCEH) layoffs

Start putting your plan B in place

I'm still at an open campus where morale is the lowest I have ever seen, me included. I have noticed that managers are taking alot of PTO (they probably know something we don't). People are looking for other opportunities so when they do let us go, we have a backup. Management is acting like its business as usual and they are busy doing their phone reviews but we know something is up. I can't feel good about doing my job anymore, I am a robot at this point just making it through each day. I feel sorry for the students and I hope they get to finish what they started or get their money back. Looking for a job currently, I was going to wait to be laid off to take the severance but not even that is a guarantee. I have already discovered lies from management to staff so I cannot and will not be a participant. First opportunity I have to leave, I am gone! I thought we were working for a good company and they sounded like they were there for the students but in reality they have lied to us and students and its not o.k. The sad thing is that the students are really not aware of the lies and most of the staff either. If you work at an open campus like me, I would start putting your plan B in place because you can't trust this company to do the right thing and you probably need insurance and a paycheck like the rest of us. Good luck to everyone, I'm out!

Most are taking PTO versus losing it. Any leftover PTO is not included in final pay. Many are also working knowing when their last day is (lot are Sept 30) and will be receiving no severance. Rather, the philosophy is that you are given a working notice which means you are working out part of your severance. Max severance is 8 weeks even if you have more years with company. Say you can get 8 weeks, but you receive 2 weeks separation notice, you'll receive 6 weeks severance (8 wks minus 2 wks separation working notice equals 6 wks severance). If you are approved to work past the 2 wks due to the position held, any time worked cuts into any severance due you.

1ifo: An in-line education may be okay for business degrees but you can’t teach graphic design, game art, interior design or photo online. I have seen their portfolios and they are not comparable to students that got critiques in a class where they could see faces. Online critiques are a joke. The online students that wanted help from our school could not compete. Taking classes online is a good way to hide personality flaws and lets be honest other physical attributes that are judged in some professions. It may not be politically correct but 300-400 lb people have a hard time in fashion and interior. You may take classes in some remote Alaska town and think that your little illustrations are the best, but the bottom line is no one cares in the big city where their are jobs. A lot of people can draw.... this school marm knows the industry and you do not

@1ifo

Just reserached the possibilities.

Argosy Online Grad Rate 6%

South Online Grad Rate 3%

Art Institute Online Grad Rate 8%

These stats are compiled over an allowable 6 year period.

You can get out and there really is so much better out there. In the past 4 weeks, 6 people from my campus (a closing one) have gotten jobs at the nearby state school (not a small college, a division 1 school.) Tell the students the truth while you are there and get out as soon as you can.

This is true, as someone whose career hasn’t been focused solely at an Edmc/DCEH school, “respectable colleges have never had respect for AU or Ai, it’s not as bad as saying you’ve taught at Capella or NAU, but they question you’re academic, professional and research abilities”

Sorry 1iuz is this 1880? School marm making you write your digits on the blackboard still? If you’re stuck in the mindset that online education isn’t acceptable as a form of higher education then you’re still in the dark ages of academia. Try researching the possibilities.

Sorry, I meant "on ground grads" that succeeded. Online is purely a joke.

Really-ppq- All of the faculty at my on ground school had master's degrees and worked in their field. Are you one of those distraught students/grads that thought you would make a living drawing little illustrations of monsters and girls with big busts? Did you think you would be a fashion designer, audio engineer or film maker, the minute you graduated? You obviously did not do your homework, not did you have a family member that cared enough to help you through the process. As much as I hate DCEH, I hate lazy, enabled people like yourself that fell for the admissions con that you would be the next great director. Did you come into the school with a GED or low high school GPA? Most colleges, would never have accepted you. I saw many online grads throughout the years that did move forward with their careers. Of course, there were many more that wouldn't have made it anywhere. You get your first job by attitude and the ability to be a part of a team. If you just whine about how much you got "taken"- you will never get hired. Faculty and staff- move on- you will be fine. You had to work with what you got. Admissions... well, you may want to learn to "read" people better and quit thinking that "everyone" will succeed. That is not the reality of the world.

Plan B is hard, if you’re faculty, real, respectable colleges have never had respect for AU or Ai, it’s not as bad as saying you’ve taught at Capella or NAU, but they question you’re academic, professional and research abilities.

Plan B probably will be a different career completely. Barista, pet groomer, retail sales and lawn maintenance might be options.

There were some programs that were valid and grads were employable. Let’s be honest, there are a lot of really lazy student/grads that didn’t think they would have to work to get a job. Admissions saw them coming in and did nothing. DCEH needs to be stopped. I don’t work for them anymore and my life is so much better. I would speak to any journalist about the things I saw. I am still in education and if any high school student mentions an AI school, I will tell them everything I know. I didn’t sign a gag order. Leave now and your life will be so much better

My experience was the same. I left in May. The President of the school was so out of touch and the EC were like robots. You were never to question anything and they just kept heaping the work on staff. Leaving has been a good decision. There are companies that realize the importance of their employees. DCEH led so many people to believe things would be better, but it was all a show. BR ...and company did not make a good decision. Don’t let them see you squirm. Stick it to them.

please, if you dont want to have a guilty confíense for the rest of your life, tell students about the lies. No student graduated from AI/EDMC has gotten any loan forgiveness and much less got their money back. EDMC filed for bankruptcy meantime students are literally drowning in debt not able to pay for this sh--ty education. DeVos is making almost impossible to get loan forgiveness, so please have a soul and speak UP!!
