That just means a patient can't sue. If a doctor relies on Watson and something bad happens, the patient sues the doctor for malpractice. Don't you think the malpractice insurance company will try to deflect blame by going after the system that gave the bad advice? It doesn't have to make sense, this is the US legal system. And an insurance company might have the lawyers and resources to beat IBM, and it only takes once.

There won't be any lawsuits related to Watson Oncology and poor recommendations. The entire product is framed to work under the supervision of a doctor. There is no real action taken by Watson. The final treatment decision always lies with the doctor.

Let the lawsuits begin. IBM lawyers won't be able to get out these, like the employee lawsuits. What goes around comes around.

Nearly all the managed care systems stayed the hell away from Watson.

Hence the massive layoffs a while back within Watson Health and anything attached to it.

It was all hype. Do you really believe what those id--ts tell you at the town halls?

Computers only work within the limits of their programming. Must be some new hire Millenials trying to train Watson.

“This product is a piece of sh--,” a doctor at Florida’s Jupiter Hospital said to IBM, according to the

documents reviewed by Stat. “We bought it for marketing and with hopes that you would achieve the

vision. We can’t use it for most cases.”
