E-mail on PA accreditation

Colleagues,

The Art Institutes takes great pride in helping students prepare to enter their chosen careers. We take seriously our mission of providing students with the opportunity to pursue their dreams and are committed to offering an engaging learning environment.

Late last week, we were notified that the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, the accrediting body of The Art Institute of Philadelphia and The Art Institute of Pittsburgh (including its online programs), has placed these institutions on "show cause" status.

To be clear, these locations remain accredited. Show cause requires these institutions to demonstrate how they can continue to meet the Middle States Commission on Higher Education's standards of accreditation via a written report and an on-site evaluation visit.

During this time, Ai Philadelphia and Ai Pittsburgh remain accredited, students remain eligible for Title IV funding, and students are not required to take any action.

We wanted to share this information as soon as we were made aware. We are already working closely with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education to answer their questions and provide the required information and data. Additionally, we are in the process of notifying students at these locations via email. We will also be conducting upcoming in-person meetings with the campus community.

We will keep you apprised of our progress. Until that time, we ask that everyone remain focused on what we all do best - providing high-quality service and education to students.

oqpb - Yes, apparently AIO emailed students (yesterday) that they could not transfer to AiO full time because of the Middle States accreditation warning <- that option is now officially off the table.

As usual, faculty have not been informed of this (formally or informally), including those currently teaching online. I do not know how anyone working for the company could know of this information besides: (1) checking this website or (2) getting questions from students (who read their email & ask) ...or perhaps (3) being in upper management hiding in the shadows...

Has anyone heard of any student taking classes at AiO receiving notification of AiP/AiO Middle States accreditation warning and show cause?

AiO is still accepting and enrolling new students, bringing students from closing Ais into online classes, and just acting like it’s business as usual.

Has anyone heard from any student who received said email?

Uhhh..the main problem isn't accredidation. The main problem is unqualified students have been taking out federal loans they can't repay bc admissions depts. have been run by propaganda not fact. "Let's be clear."

AIP is clearly going to lose their accreditation. Look at it from Middle State’s perspective. The school is failing and will most likely close. AI’s reputation is in the toilet. Why would Middle States want to be seen as accrediting a failure and a scam? Much better from their perspective to stay above it all and say AIP does not meet their standards. No amount of high powered lawyers or writers can save AIP. Their fate is sealed.

It is clear AIP/AiPOD cares about accreditation, but is there any proof sign inkling DCEH cares, knows how it works, understands what it means beyond Title IV funding, or is prepared to do what it takes to keep AiP/AiPOD regionally accredited?

@UkHt17C-omu the quality of the portfolio depends on the major. I've been to a lot of AIP/AiO combined graduations and portfolio shows, in some I repeat some programs, there is little if any difference in student portfolios.

There are students who want an education and to be a professional attending AiO. They do well even though the online classes are pretty pathetic, time consuming busy work, dated lectures and projects, and assignments for the most part meaningless, these students would succeed anyway, but they probably couldn't get into a respectable college or they were s---ered into attending Ai and have to complete their degree at Ai since no real college will accept their credits. There are also some doorknobs who attend AiO, they graduate too, faculty are reviewed on % of students they pass with a C- or better and how few drop a class and deans campus and online are reviewed on numbers as well.

DCEH leadership wants to be as "TRANSPARENT" as possible about the Middle States warning after the HLC disaster.

Ai Leadership are banking on students not even reading the email because they never read their emails and even if they did they will have no clue.

When Middle States comes on campus i am going to tell them how the campus takes direction straight from DCEH and does not act autonomsly separate from DCEH.

DCEH WANTS TO BE "ONE UNIVERSITY"

These schools are soooo screwed. And this kind of internal e-mail is so watered down. Clearly whoever wrote it has no clue how accreditation works. "We ask that everyone remain focused on what we all do best - providing high-quality service and education to students." Um, that's exactly what Middle States asks from all of the schools that they review. And guess what - IT DOESN'T THINK THAT YOU ARE.

Who do I contact to tell them how horrible the portfolios are at the online school? They need to be shut down because the education these students are getting will not get them a job in their field.

DCEH seems to love the phrase "remain accredited." They used it on the Ai website to describe Ai Illinois and Ai Colorado when they did not remain accredited.
