You can collect unemployment regardless of severance payout. It's easy to file the claim and you can do it now.

FYI check with your tax pro about the potential taxes for receiving the your severance. You may end up paying out more for 2018 taxes as they won’t withhold enough taxes.

For anyone wanting to apply in the state of MO per the unemployment website severance is not reportable and you may file a claim while receiving severance pay.

You can definitely collect unemployment even if you received a severance.

It may very by state, but I don't believe you can take unemployment until the severance runs out.

And even if not eligible now, locks in your last 12 months income. Which if you wait will be way less. Did they tell you that in your exit package?
