Thread regarding Northwestern University layoffs

Northwestern layoffs July 2018

Once more we are having cuts at Northwestern University, even after the completion of a highly successful fundraising effort (I'm taking billions here.) Add to that the fact that we have no issues with student demand, it really makes you wonder if cutting these 80 positions was really necessary.

But since it is administrative staff and faculty we are talking about, I doubt anybody is going to bother and raise these issues.

Yes, I am bitter right now.

The worst thing is that Nim Chinniah's actions meet with zero accountability. He gets praise and a golden parachute, and over 80 people (others were laid off after central administration was done) have their lives thrown into turmoil.

The Board should be embarrassed, and they should publicly rebuke the leadership who presided over this mess. But it's just people, so they don't care.

It's a shame to see an institution once viewed as noble revealed to be mercenary and amoral.

Only if Nim didn’t blow 125 million dollars everyone would have their jobs still

'Northwestern University officials announced Thursday that the university will lay off 80 administrative staff to help close a projected budget deficit, Evanston Now reported. Faculty are not affected by the layoffs, and some vacant positions will not be filled."
