Thread regarding Dream Center Education Holdings, LLC (DCEH) layoffs

Now hiring?!

I was part of the first round of layoffs that happened a few months ago. I was looking online and my old campus (one of the ones staying open) is hiring as of today for my position. What the heck?! These people don’t know what they’re doing.

Likely they're not rehiring. My school (now closing) had "open" positions the entire 5+ years in my department despite having ZERO intentions of hiring anyone new. It was just to collect resumes in the event that people leave.

DCEH can save a few dollars and cancel that curriculum manager position. The curriculum was decided by a committee from all the campuses. Adjuncts and others worked on revising online classes a few times, they have changed in format but the content and assignments haven’t changed in over a decade at least.

DCEH and EDMC have the same practices, they are willing to cut a position and reopen it with a new name, the same or higher workload and lower salary. If you have no where else you can go or are near retirement you take the job they offer and do it the way they tell you to do it.

Streamlined administrative staff across all campuses makes more sense than replacing admissions, teachers and staff that are productive.

That was edmc that laid off online directors. The new positions were and still are curriculum managers for each dept and lead faculty. Some lead faculty act like lead faculty and some act like directors. Some leads are paid well some paid less then some faculty. Just sayin'

Legally the position would have to be slightly different.

When they terminated online program directors they reopened the exact same position plus added teaching 8 classes as “lead faculty” then gave them the option of accepting the new position for a faculty salary, about 75% of the pay if that.

Illegal - they could not rehire a position that was cut. I’d contact the lawyer

That happened all the time with EDMC lay-offs. They can replace you for cheaper or part-time.You might even be able to apply and make less but probably not.
