Thread regarding CA Technologies (CA Inc.) layoffs

We will witness MASSIVE LAYOFFS soon!

Broadcom has to remove over 1.5 billion from CA for it to make sense. If CA has roughly 11,000 employees today, that would mean they probably need to cut about 80% of CA.

If you think CA isn't bloated right now, make no mistake, it is going to get pretty thin quickly. As the poster mentioned earlier, they will move quickly to cut people, so the admin folks will cut quickly - but so will customer support, marketing, etc. I bet they will cut between 4,000 - 6,000 people instantly and then a year from now, cut another 2,000 - 4,000 people.

CA as we know it will be down to 2,000 or 3,000 people. Broadcom will get value out of this purchase but cutting the expenses, that contrary to popular belief are still bloated. How many companies of this size have private jets, limo drivers and multiple offices within 50 miles of each other. Not many.

So... a lot of useless speculation that no one has any control over. Most of the posts were written a few months ago. CA employees still there... don’t waste your present moments worrying about when layoffs will happen... you are wasting your day today. When it happens to you... you will begin a new chapter in your life... you will look back on this as part of your past... everything that is traumatic passes... it always does...this too will pass ... life will go on... take it from an old head and someone who has been there and done that. You will be just fine!

I was at CA during the time of the Platinum and Sterling acquisitions. All the due diligence was done prior to closing and on day one after close all the short term layoffs happened.

I suspect Broadcom will do something similar.

Good news for CAers is if you have unvested stock and you get laid off from Broadcom you get to keep it I heard.

Thank you @UcKCfqM-2xmk.

I work in the IT (business solution development) team. I assume same applies for IT team also.

Will get ready. While CA is not end of the world, it is surely sad and depressing to go through this phase after years of service. It is business and they will care only for profits and least for employees

Dear SlaughterofCA - It will be pretty quick that people will be cut from CA. Like day 1 quick if you are in Marketing, Finance, Legal, HR and basically any other group that isn’t Mainframe or perhaps Sales, although your Sales group will get cut too, especially Services. They said they would cut over 1 billion in expenses, I predict that is about 5,000 people and then a year later they will cut another 3,000. Get your Plan B in place now, it will move quick. They are ruthless, but their model works and you can’t blame them. CA has been on that list of dying brands for years. It has finally died. Rest In Peace and move on. If you are a Long Island person, don’t wait for your severance package, unless it is a big one, and find a job now. Certain groups may even be cut earlier if CA planned to cut you as part of their most recent down-sizing event. Sorry to the CA people.

Broadcom friends,

Can someone shed light on how quickly Broadcom will start layoffs of CA employees, How soon was it for past acquisitions? 3 months, 6 months or more?

Just gauging how much time CA employees would have to get ready with their plan B.

Appreciate all the insight you guys have been providing

It’s baffling how nobody at Broadcom knew that this acquisition would cause a sizable stock drop.

This stock has a 52 week high of $285 and now it’s $208 spoiling what has been a meteoric rise for the last few years.

I can understand Broadcom wanting to expand into software but paying $20 billion dollars for a legacy, non-growth software company and taking a small sizable stock price hit sure seems like a gamble.

Gregoire has sold CA down the river, and profited handsomely in the process. Tha man made well over $10M last year, this year will be even better with accelerated vesting of his shares. The rest of the ELT are packing their golden parachutes while Islandia rank and file employees are brushing up their resumes.

Such a dumb post. CA Management will be gone as soon as this deal is approved. The usual ones will be kept is false. Most of the people at CA that are VP’s or SVP’s will be gone, so to the person that said the usual ones will remain, they won’t. The only thing accurate in your post is there is life after CA.

From my heart I advise you to have plan B. In these cases nobody knows what is going to happen, what is sure is that the usual ones will remain in their positions, and those who do not have anyone to protect them will be adrift. I tell them to review their resume and explore something new there are opportunities outside, Life is very short and it is not worthwhile to be suffering because of the CA upper-management's games . There are more good companies that need you. Everybody who works for CA is very smart, don't be afraid, There is life after CA.

Stop posting this fear-mongering in every single thread. Yes, it's an acquisition. Yes, there will be layoffs.

Agreed, though I don't know that they can let go that many so soon without closing lines of business, so they may sell some instead.

As a roll-up company with experience limited to the semiconductor industry Broadcom will be clueless about the special needs of software development and it will treat the company as a semiconductor acquisition. Two to four layers of management will be trimmed, as well as at least 20% - 30% of the workforce. The reality is there is fat to be trimmed at CA, but besides the inevitable layoffs the cultural change will reverberate through the company and affect everyone in ways the team at Broadcom cannot comprehend. This will destroy any capability the company still retains to develop or even maintain any but the oldest and most stable software with a sticky userbase (mainframe). It will not be possible to develop even mediocre software in the environment that will be created. Enterprise will either die or be sold off.

All that stuff about the "Software Factory" and "Agile software development" will look like lies. It seems that Careal has sold the rest of CA down the river. Try to get out while you can still control your own destiny.
