Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

It's all for nothing

I know so many good people who were laid off after decades with Devon just to be replaced with cheap, much younger employees who barely know what they are doing.

They all worked hard, gave it their all, and for what? So that the company could use them up and then dismiss them like they never existed.

Devon has lost its core values and it deserves to fail spectacularly for it.

I agree with all. Im reading this book Free Agent Nation. Yeah, i worked my butt off for Devon. Doing the same now, for less pay. I often think if i'd work that hard for myself, doing whatever, i would succeed. Making that leap. Figuring out the darn health benefit options. That takes courage.

Go for it.

You are a blind fool if you think a corporation cares about you as a person or what your life is like.

Employers like Devon are ideally looking for an employee with the wisdom of a 50 year old,

the experience of a 40 year old,

the drive of a 30 year old,

and the pay scale of a 20 year old.

Welcome to the not so new normal, of employers chewing up and spitting out employees like gum.

You'll never get rich or be financially secure working for someone else. Get a good sideline, like investing in real estate or something else that will help provide you a steady income.
