A friend of mine in IBM Canada who is a certified Enterprise Architect and is 54 yrs old with 18 yrs at IBM was let go today because he was not able to take application developer roles!!!

Expensive with respect to salary and also benefits. IBM in US is self insured, people over 45 are the most likely to have expensive health issues, cancer, heart disease, etc. Just my opinion, everyone should make it their goal to move on.
Just to be clear, it has nothing to do with agile but wth his age and how expensive he is to IBM. As a FLM I hear our finance and HR team in the US talk about this all the time. Hope he has documentation to file a complaint with the appropriate Federal Authorities.
