IT Delivery Managers, Product Managers, and some Project Managers add no value to Shell. These positions should go to India. All development is currently being done there by most energy companies. Shell seems to always be a step behind

Oh, btw just saw on Linkedin a guy I hired at Shell 15 years ago was “looking for new opportunities” and got employment within the past 2 months. Mid 50s, wife, 2 kids....it is a new world so cover your backside and be ready to bail; they (Shell) no longer care anything about you....work/life balance?...hah!! At least he found other source of family income....all the best.

There was a golden age of corporate employment, defined benefit pensions, retirement medical benefits, cash-out terminations.... if you’re still working, you missed the boat. No criticism, just realize Shell has long ago moved away from rewarding loyalty and longevity. Am sure some younger folks will say “great! long over due”. Wait til you’re in your 40s/50s with 20+ years of service, kids at university, retirement in site...and you’re dumped. Oh my....

The oil companies have always been notorious for decades expanding then contracting. Ever heard of "we went from boom to bust"? It is part of a long-established cycle started in the early 20th century. When you meet someone that has been with the company over 25 years you need to bow and say, "I am not worthy". They have been through many kinds of hell and survived. Will you? That task was easier in decades past but it’s a different world now and continues to change. If you were hired when pensions were part of the compensation package and over 40 years old, then you’re at risk. Perhaps not this time but there will be a next time. There is always another round of cuts coming because the market and/or the organization is always changing. Oil companies have mastered the art of the now trendy "stealth layoffs" long ago. They hire people as they enter the prime of their careers then s--- the life out of them for years with a promise of pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Then as you get close to cashing in on their promises when you’re least expecting here comes a reorganization and you’re as# is kicked to the curb. Do not be a fool and believe management BS. Trust your instincts and ask yourself, is this the place I want to place the bet on the future of my family and career? If you take the “I am so competent and valued they will never let me go” then you have fallen into the trap as many, many employees before you. They were also arrogant, euphoric, delusional and now not employed by Shell. Know when to say when. If you have not invested a lot of time with Shell, get out while you can on your terms. There are so many better opportunities out there.

Doesn't Matter hundreds of thousands are being spent on building the new Americas VPs office. Is the old one not good enough?

Why would someone with an advanced degree and business acumen even want to try investing a career today with a major oil/gas company? Years ago, it made sense; since the mid-80s, you are vulnerable at every hint of a bbl price downturn; and good luck if you are over 45 with 20 years of service. A job in the medical profession would be a much better choice.
