Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Chatham

The MAADs decision will accelerate the layoffs twofold. Given that Enbridge only has 5 years instead of 10 years to accomplish what they have planned, they are not going to walk away at this point in the game.

EGD has so many people at head office, they could cut half of their workforce and they would not be missed. Unfortunately the way the decision is structured, many good people at Union Gas will be laid off due to the OEB's decision.

Chatham is going to look like a ghost town as all of these well-paying jobs will be gone. If you have not already put your house up for sale, I would strongly suggest you consider it. There's lots of buyers fleeing Toronto's housing market and Chatham real estate is a bargain!

Good luck to everyone in Chatham. The joyride has only just begun.

Union Gas is more efficient in terms of processes, filling vacancies through attrition etc. Whoever posted that UG was filled with lazy A**S needs to have their head examined. Why is it that Enbridge always ends up on the front page of the Toronto Star (see https://www.thestar.com/life/advice/2018/12/04/enbridge-gas-admits-we-didnt-get-it-right.html) and Union does not. I tell you why. We really care about our reputation and customers and we do everything we can in terms of adopting best in class policies and procedures to ensure that we are #1 in Ontario.

If you don't believe me look up Enbridge's rating on the BBB.

I don’t know much about UG but the way Enbridge management let Accenture runs the show is disheartening. I can’t believe the model that is sending enbridge management in a frenzy. They have no sense of direction and starts running in the direction Accenture asks them to. The entire CX project at Enbridge is a joke which would not bring the cost down for Enbridge but would definitely add revenue to Accenture.

Not sure Union should be any more worried than EGD. As someone else mentioned, Union is more efficient (fact, not opinion) and EGD also has higher salaries for equivalent positions in at least some departments. I suppose we will have a better sense when we see who gets picked for the executive team... if this amalgamation goes ahead at all. I see no reason to assume they won’t back away. Enbridge is very risk adverse and they aren’t going to mess with their cash cow utilities just because they invested a lot of hours in the filing and proceeding. From what I’ve seen, their desire to minimize risk strongly outweighs any financial upside.

In unrelated news, I seriously LOLed when I read AM got phished! I would love to know more. I assume the attackers made it look like an email from Ashley Madison.

Do Enbridge’s leaders enjoy ruining the lives of people who have been excellent employees? As long as they, themselves, prosper, they certainly seem to. Enbridge sickens me.

The only reason Union Gas hasn’t been touched by layoffs yet is that it historically hasn’t been run by total id--ts. Whenever UG has to hire for projects, they actually plan out how to absorb extra hires through retirements and whatnot. You know, like responsible hiring. Looking at EGD, it seems like everyone is a rung up the ladder compared to Union Gas and they have way more middle managers, and more people in general. In the MAADs stuff, you can clearly see Union is more effficent. Apparently even the Union Gas call centres (which are run in-house in Ontario with full time unionized people who make a decent living) cost less than EGD’s out-sourced piece-of-sh-- call centres. Anyway, I don’t doubt Union Gas will have the sh-- kicked out of it by Enbridge ... but don’t assume that just because we haven’t had layoffs before we’re running with a lot of fat. Simply not the case, and obvious from MAADs... so shut the f--- up.

EGD has already been through 3 yrs of steady layoffs. They will get hit hard again after this decision but Union will get decimated as they have been relatively untouched so far.
