Layoffs happen everywhere but very rarely here at Steelcase. The company is really good if you want to develop your skills, you will work a lot (hours can be very long) but the work is rewarding and you will be recognized for your contribution. A lot of promotions are happening from inside so there is an opportunity there. Job stability, compared to other industries is fairly good and as long as the economy as the whole is working well, there is a lots of opportunities here at Steelcase. The number one complaint you will hear about the company is the work life balance which can be challenges but many folks here are alpha personalities and drivers and that will make an extra pressure on anyone - overall, it's a great company to work for.
