Thread regarding DST Systems layoffs

I like working at DST

To this day I still like working here. I enjoy coming to work, I like the people I work with, and I even like what I do.

I'm on this page out of fear I'll lose all that, not because I hate the company. Am I really alone in this?

From the posts here, it sure seems so, and I can't figure out why...

My gosh, you only need 1/8 of a brain to work at DST. People come in late and leave early and take 2 hour lunches. Honestly never seen anyplace like it.

Joke is on DST, people have been mailing it in for decades.

Keep drinking the Koolaid. Keep believing it will all turn out OK. Keep believing there is a future. All a unicorn pipe dream. That is what I love about DST long-timers...the nicest bunch of passive head-in-the-sand people you will ever meet. They are like Milton from "Office Space"...just let me keep my Red Stapler and everything will be alright...

DST does not exist anymore in more ways than one.

You are giving them the benefit of the doubt ? Good luck with that - the business has shrunk - no one places direct accts on ta . ETFs , fidelity funds that have no management fees .

Not alone: there are a lot of talented, dedicated, and engaged people still working at DST. If you still have a lot of friends working with you you are lucky. Most of mine were let go over the last year and a half.

SH was a bad manager and probably had his own agenda when he started (maybe formulated by his brother, "the smart one"). They gutted BFDS and then DST. BF was a profitable company, dispite the extrordinarily high fees DST charged. SSB didn't apparently care that DST double dipped on BF fees so they received both high fees and half the profits.

The last several years of chaos and lack of direction have been extrordinarily disruptive to both BF & DST.

The recommentations that Bain Consulting (a bunch of 21 year olds) made in a vacuum were really unfounded. They compared apples to oranges, and management is still executing on the misguided advice. One thing I do agree with Mr. Stone about is not spending reasouces on these types of consultants.

Still giving SSnC the benefit of the doubt for now, with the hope that they take the time to learn & understand what our business is.

Yes, you are absolutely alone in this.

I hope you get out before the company forces you out.

Very well put previous poster, I think any hatred people have for the company really should be directed at those you mentioned.

I don't get the feeling people hate DST, like you say, anyone here longer than a day has built up relationships. A lot of us like our jobs and coworkers. What we don't like is what Hooly did to the company, how a once great Kansas City company went full wallstreet, going for the short term profit in place of civic duty or even decency. And now, how SS&C is taking that to the next level, by sacrificing everything, even the good will of our customers in service of Stones 40% margin.

F-ck those guys.

People on my left and right? Friends of a lifetime. Just really sad to see what's happened here.

Of course it’s fun to be coasting and gabbing it up with your buddies. Wait until you get tossed into the grinder. It’s not so relaxed everywhere else.

Props to you, don't be fearful just work harder. Ssnc won't lay you off this october. Just to make sure you dont get laid off i recommend asking your boss for a 15% reduction in pay.
