Thread regarding CA Technologies (CA Inc.) layoffs

Dismantling CA

I work at CA. Broadcom was in for meetings last week (in New York). Nice people.

As far as I can tell Broadcom is executing a wholesale dismantling of CA as an institution.

It’s definitely impressive.

Good luck Broadcom!

Which BU's are getting sold? And to whom? Rumor is that we will know this at close. Can anyone confirm anything? Maybe the guy who found the plans on the printer?

When you say “dismantling”,do you mean divesting aka fire sale?

@UTm4fHw-1vnu I'm not a support person, just another one of the many things you continue to be wrong about. But carry on with your angry outbursts, I'm sure it is therapeutic for you.

I agree with the last comment. When CA acquired Platinum there was a ton of anti-CA language in their contracts, things like “if CA buys Platinum you get free support forever” and stuff like that. So what happened? CA didn’t buy Platinum directly, a company called “Hard Metal” did. Which of course was owned by CA. So that invalidated all those contract provisions. I would not be surprised if Broadcom did something similar.

Unless a contract says “US support, minimum x number of people” Broadcom can do whatever they want.

And they can outsource the whole support function to some Indian provider with a US presence. Want to keep your job, CA support guy? You’re competing with Sanjeev who makes $14 an hour.

Support people are the most laughable, as if they think they are irreplaceable. They’re not. Bye bye.

Outsourcing is for real. Its actually surprising why it took CA so long to realize it.

Some of these comments are hilarious. "Unless a customer contract says “US support” there is no reason why they can’t lay off 50% of support day 1". Well, that is exactly what customers do have in their contracts. These aren't people spending $20 a year for anti-virus software. A fortune 50 company paying CA or Broadcom $10 million+ a year for mission critical systems is not going to sit back and be screwed over. I also don't think Broadcom is going to take the golden goose they just spent $18 billion on out back and shoot it in the head. I do think Broadcom will cut areas where their is overlap(back office, IT), but they're not a software company so you can't compare what they did in the past. If it was so easy to just ship everything to India CA would have done it already. They certainly didn't keep people in the US out of the goodness of their heart. People posting chicken little doomsday scenarios are the same id--ts that claim buying stocks is easy. "You just buy low and sell high". Reality is a little different.

Given that Broadcom has never run a software company or provided software support before, I would say it's anyone's guess what they'll do.

I just can’t believe Dayton is still around.

The fact that Broadcom took notes is nice, but they can just hand those notes over to some capable people overseas who will be doing support.

Unless a customer contract says “US support” there is no reason why they can’t lay off 50% of support day 1, and retain the best half for 90 or 180 days to train up their cheaper replacements.

There is a difference between good support and meeting the terms of the contract. Which do you really think Broadcom will do?

I attendwd Dayton Semerjian’s townhall yesterday. It made the impression of a testament about all “good” things global customer had achieved. Basically they kept saying they had explained all to Broadcomand they had been impressed and they had taken notes about what it takes to run a software company with the adequate level expected by customers.

In all, nice talk but little beyond that. If anything is in the making it will have been communicated at higher level and of course elt are not sharing it with commoners.

I have no idea what rhey will do with us. I don’t care to be honest, as there is nothing I can control. If I am to be laid offf let it be it. I want my severance paycheck, no matter from whom, and life will go on.

This said I doubr any of us know what will happen. I don’t believe broadcom are sharing their dismantling plans- if they exist- with anyone other than senior management. I also doubt employees anywhere have been forewarned or sacked, and I very much doubt strategic jingles like “they are keeping mainframe and immefiately close the rest”: I can tell you from a supporr perspective that such move would trigger a cascade of lawsuits from disarrayed customers. Not saying broadcom will take everythung in- I am not so naive seen what ca has done with others- but it won’t all be so easy as pulling a plug off.

I’d also be very much wary of troll-like statenents of the type ‘I kmow for sure GIS have been laid off “en masse”: any such move doesn’t go unnoticed and of course it would be a hot topic already withput needing this site to go public.

I am not so sure who is behind trolling efforts: it is not funny and it helps no purpose. Does anyone really believe that if we have to wait and see and are all finally laid off there will be a problem with it CA former employees saturated market? Are you serious? Hiow many IT positions cs. potemtial job spplicats are there?

So folks let’s trybto focus, not panic and not get hysterical. What will be, will be,. I too am upset at the hypocrisy of higher management, but so be it. I have work ethics and I will perform to the best of my abilities until the curtain falls. And ket everyone settle his or her behaviour with his conscience.
