Can you volunteer if on a pip?
-ktf is correct and Q will verify that you were part of the RIF, regardless of whether you made yourself available.
It's not controversial, but you do have to look for work each week, and attend a couple of employment classes as you are notified....and do this sincerely.

You should still be eligible for unemployment if you volunteer. You are merely letting the company know you are willing to be laid off which removes them from liabilities. But it is not a guarantee that you will be laid off, as acceptance is at the discretion of your manager. Key employees are sometimes denied to be included in the layoffs. Since in the end it is the decision of the company, it is still a qualifying layoff for company purposes.
You don't get unemployment if you volunteer. You have to be unemployed by no fault of your own to be eligible.
You are assuming the package is the same. Life boats are all gone, just like the generous packages.
