Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Without 7nm program, what left on the product roadmap?

Massive layoff is not going to avert the sinking ship, maybe just delay it for a few years. The company may save money short term, but the best and brightest talents will be gone.

Those that didn't get impacted by the layoff will lose trust and faith in the company and will be looking to a better stabler company they can believe in. You will be left with the bottom pool.

Also, without 7nm program, what is in the product roadmap? Just derivatives? How can a foundry survive long term without a solid future product roadmap? Good luck, but you will need more than luck.

Intel's competitors have 7nm processes and our manufacturing devices in volume. Stop kidding yourself. @URzIxgJ-drq.

Beating the odds of worrying about 7nm, I would say it is a good decision to improve current node manufacturing, which GF is good at doing. There are not many players in the industry who can make 14nm work right. I think things would settle down and be clear in the coming years. Feel bad for 7nm folks, but not completely end of the world for GF.
