Thread regarding CA Technologies (CA Inc.) layoffs

CEO?

I heard the CEO has stopped coming to work and left already. His office is empty and dark for the last month and a half which is not unlike before but I think he would come in for a half day every now and then. Can you confirm?

Would you show up for work if you just snuffed out a former leader in the industry? If you read the proxy statement this year, you would see there is a table with the payouts that occur in a "change of control" event. They all cash out nicely. Can't say i am bitter, the board has to approve all of it. MG has done a good job in my view, (10 year veteran) and has brought in some real talent. Ayman, Lauren come to mind. It is just a surprise to me, as i felt MG was committed to organic growth, innovation and quality. I just don't see that continuing with Broadcom. They want MF. plain and simple. Future is very uncertain for employees, I got whacked in the earlier layoff in May. Probably the best turn of events given the glut of CA people that will be likely looking soon.

Good luck to all CA'ers.

I miss Charles. He showed up every day and while he was ruthless he was always fair and treated people pretty good. He was ahead of his time with child care and food in the office before the Google’s of the world came into being. This executive team spent tons of money on themselves and failed to grow the business. So much talk about growth that lead to being sold. I wish old leadership was back at CA. In all but one example, the old leadership is way better than thany current leadership.

Valid point and an appropriate slap in the face to us. Most people never deal with the CEO of their respective company. Who cares if they show up or not. We need to focus on the next chapter of life. Stop focusing on people that we will most likely never see or hear from again.

One month ago there were 800 open positions in the internal career portal in NA. I checked today. 300 open positions. What Does that sound to you?

“but they can’t even decide what to do with Islandia until they own the place”

This is laughable at best.

First, they already know how many people are there, the departments, the cost of the lease, the cost to get out of the lease. All easily obtainable and they probably knew it DURING DUE DILIGENCE before the acquisition was even announced.

Second, before the acquisition closes - in November, months away - they will have completed all interviews of people and know who will stay and for however long.

They probably have already spoken with the management company at least once to discuss options to wind down CA’s presence, from taking over less floors to exiting the building altogether. Any costs would be wrapped up in the overall acquisition budget.

They know this already. They don’t have to wait until it’s finalized.

@UPevzLq-3xui Not sure what you mean by get real......your post is pretty useless.

An EVP of HR is answering technical questions on Yammer - let's not make it that he's the next Abraham Lincoln. We'll all know the answers soon enough....there are things management could be telling us but has chosen not to.

In 2017 Broadcom brought in 17.6 billion in revenue with 14,000 employees. If CA matches the same ratio with our 4 billion in revenue, that translates to about 3300 employees. Public presentations by Broadcom show a day one savings of approximately 350 million dollars. Best guess that translates to an initial layoff of 3500 on November 5th with an additional 3500 on retention through March. Remainder are either core mainframe Rt hiring today (check www.ca.com/careers), it's probably on the list to get shut down. if your division isn't hiring, 90 percent of it is getting let go on the first two waves. That probably includes GIS, HR, Legal, marketing, sales, and finance. Support will probably see a 25% cut day one, another 25 percent cut in March, with the remainder split off to mainframe or divestitures. services will be sold off or shut down with the exception of mainframe.

The BU with R&D departments hiring are ramping up for divestiture, but even they could see a bottom 10% cull. All other products will be shut down in the next year with a bare bones staff in ITC to support it.

Are you really id--ts. Heads of HR at the acquired company can’t even be communicating anything to you let alone how many people are going to be fired . Broadcom will cut most people but they can’t even decide what to do with Islandia until they own the place. Keeping cribbing and the one person communicating with you will stop. Trust me. He is not staying and has nothing to gain by trying to help. Get real.

does anyone know how many people in the company work in mainframe-related things? Is it as many as 4,000? just wondering if they'll be the only ones left

A resource who is very close to GDL has him quoted, saying “7,000 people will be gone”, and that resource use to work at CA too, but I cannot validate it since I did not hear this first hand

Where did you get 7000 number?

Lol yeah GDL is very transparent about the technicalities of benefits and compensation but is being VERY political about answering questions with whom will get laid off. He knows 7,000+ people will be laid off, but he can’t come out and say it. He knows Islandia will be closing ... and again, he can’t come out and say it. People really need to wake the f--- up because it’s embarrassing to think GDL is being completely transparent, he’s selectively being transparent in certain areas in question.

I think GDL is great leader and may be things could have been different if GDL was CEO of CA.

the ceo doesn't care about us and i don't care about him either. ca was a good company, it had some great things that i will miss and some other things that i won't miss. but one thing i know will be true, ca will be better than broadcom. broadcom has very few special benefits and is a basic employer that may pay well. but ranking employees and those other things create a toxic work environment and that is not worth it for all the money they may or may not pay. job security there is worse than it is at ca and that is saying something. time to find something else and not look back. history will tell a much different story for ca then it is now.

All of BikeBoy’s waste is just a rounding error for $18 billion. And he will no doubt turn up in 6 months as a full equity partner at Silver Lake or a similar firm.

I wouldn’t wish death on him but he should stay out of dark alleys on Long Island.

Looks like he was receiving major death threats. He was advised by a security agency to disappear for 70 days.

What Broadcom should be angry about is CA just opened a nice new office in Stamford, CT so that Bikeboy would not have to commute in to Manhattan every day. They should claw back some of that golden parachute for the tremendous waste of money that was committed to such a stupid move.

Well for $50 million+, he can buy lots of fancy bikes and he needs time to ride them. Lay off #bikeboy

So? Do you think you can stop him from being paid that money by calling him out for not working?

How will your life change if Bikeboy works or doesnt?

Get over worrying about what useless executives do. It doesn't matter. CA is dead. Gregoire coming to the office or not isn't changing that.
