Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

my prediction

QC will go the way of the dodos, just like other great and iconic american companies such as Motorola, Kodak, AT&T (original one) and Lucent Technologies.

A company needs it greatest engineers to make great products. It cannot be done by paper shufflers and powerpoint presentations.

1cga is correct. Poor management, which is dominate at Qualcomm, is what drives workers away above all else. We were taught this at Qualcomm, but the upper management has not paid attention. The current management seems to not be planning for the future of the business or of its employees, rather they are focused on maximizing shareholder return in the short term, which by the way they have not been doing successfully. The BOD is derelict in allowing the poor performance of the QC management to go on unchallenged these past few years.

QTL has an unmatched patent portfolio that throws off tons of cash. They aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

QCT still produces the best premium tier SOCs for Android. I don’t see how that changes anytime soon. They also have the best modem by a mile and are integrated on die which allows the OEMs to save costs. In house IP like GPU and camera also add value.

Unless Android goes away, I don’t see this going away. All the giant Android phone OEMs are lining up to use snapdragons year after year.

QCT also has an intelligent tiering scheme that maximizes IP reuse and revenues.

Q has the best system engineers on the planet with maybe he exception of Apple. It’s hard to see how Samsung or MTK can keep up with Q.

My prediction is that QC will eventually split licensing and QCTbusinesses as was suggested a few years ago, with QCT being offshored where it will eventually either be sold off or die a slow death as competition increases and internal engineering competence withers due to QC inability to manage remote sites. QC was a good run for me, volunteered for the June 19 layoff. Divesting my QC stock as quickly as my tax situation will allow over the past years. Don’t want to sit and watch the stock value decline as it did for years after 2000...
