Thread regarding Phillips 66 layoffs

Next Round of Layoffs coming in September

I saw a document on the HR site that was open for a few hours (now it says I don't have access). It says another round of cuts will come in mid September primarily for Finance and IT. (But a smaller number from some other groups).

It mentioned waiting until mid September to be at the same time as the ConocoPhillips cuts - in order to not get as much attention from the local media/press.

These people are getting pretty sophisticated, and running this campaign just like the politicians!

The people leaving will get 3 weeks pay for each year of service - up to 15 years. Plus a few allowances to help find another job - build a resume etc.

I did a search for files on the intranet about layoffs, reductions etc.. I did see a lot of stuff that I probably am not meant to see, but didn't see anything like the subject of this post. Maybe they hid it, but I am guessing it is fake news.

LOL - Information Security are clueless unless all the answers are handed to them on a platter. You have used some fancy words like "local cache" and "intranet" - and you can watch all the espionage movies in the world and dream we have the ability to see what everyone is doing. All I am saying is I know what really goes on in IT and the chances of us figuring out who looked at a file that was permissioned incorrectly is slim-to-none.

All of the people that we still have left in IT that I'd call talented are looking elsewhere for employment since the writing is on the wall on what our future holds.

What are you talking about, all intranet files are on SharePoint. This has built in metric analytics for visitors, page views, and edit changes. Include Office 365 into the mix with your local cache, it would be easy to identify some one reading what they are not supposed to. You must work in HQ IT Support and not Information Security in Bartlesville.

Don't believe the movies too much about how much of your activities are watched. I work in IT and it is true that we have security tools - but most of them are to look for outside people trying to break in. We are very blind to what our employees do unless we have advanced warning of what we need to be looking for.

And I can also vouch that HR (and others) make lots of mistakes and accidently put things out for the general public on accident. And then we have a fire-drill to fix things when someone figures it out (and somehow it then is IT's fault).

If what you say is true OP, then know that there are tools to see what documents have been opened and by whom. It would be mighty suspicious to see a document openend by someone not in HR, and then see that information on this site.

I can't speak for the original poster, but you can see all sorts of HR files by doing a search on the intranet. I can't open most of the results, but the titles of the documents often give way what would be in them.

Hopefully it is just bad info. But our manager has started asking some suspicious questions earlier this week around who could backfill for certain roles if needed.

Based on the work that still needs to be done, please explain the logic behind this. Also, this would go against everything that has been said by management over the past week. I'm calling BS.

Why are you looking at HR files?
