Thread regarding Southwestern Energy Co. layoffs

This was the big mistake

Houston made the mistake of continuing to invest money into drilling the Fayetteville Shale and purchasing the WV assets when they should have stuck a fork in the Fayetteville Shale 5 years ago and passed on the WV deal. If they were smart, they would have invested money into one of the many opportunities they had to pick up Permian acreage back when it was going for reasonable prices. So the workers in Arkansas and WV should be happy corporate is so dumb, because if they weren't dumb, many of those folks would be frying chicken at a gas station, or jobless.

Public companies are increasingly “one basin “ companies . In reality ; if swn had buckled down and just done the Fayetteville .. limtiedboverhead etc it would have been best for share holders.

Clearly not good for the empire building ELT . Also if you pick the wrong basin , good bye

Many bad decisions to go around, I think the reality now is slow downward decline.

I am interested in more details on layoffs .. with the rig count going to 2 rigs in October ... would think fewer and fewer people needed

The ELT has been tasked to stab as many people in the back as possible. Been happening since last year - all outside of the normal layoff scheme, which is to remain under WARN ACT reporting thresholds. Gives them the option to totally hose good, hardworking people on severance, which they’ve coldheartedly done on many occasions. The Way “way” you see.

Buckle up, it’s going to be rough until the end.
