If you gone through NA layoff, is severance a big check and pay taxes next year, how much is COBRA, etc?

There is life after CA. I was there for 20 years and got let go in May. It was tough but honestly, it couldn’t have worked out any better. I got my severance, got a month off of work and started a new job with more pay where they actually appreciate my talent. And it’s a remote position. Please know- there is life after CA and you will be fine! 😊
i was part of the May RIF. severance came in one check a few months later- and uncle sam took a pretty penny.
The formula for calculating your severance is :
severance pay = ( annual base salary / 52) x 2 x the number of FULL years of service with CA.
*this assumes no change to severance packages by new leadership

Cobra is most expensive when you have family coverage it is like 2,500 per month so not inexpensive.
