Prepping for tomorrow

Anyone other instructors have a hard time prepping for summer quarter? I feel like tomorrow is going to be hell. I’m teaching two new classes and prepping for them has been so hard. Mostly because I know I won’t teach them again and then also just all the stress and worry about finding a new job as well as the worry for the students and their futures. Anyone else out there feeling this way? Ugh... they should probably provide remaining faculty and staff stress counseling.

Yup. Have one class I've never taught before. Need the extra money but I'm afraid of the incredibly low energy this quarter's going to have.

How are the starts going? Students showing up?

Why in the world would ANY student continue? What is the point? It only benefits DCEH, not the student.

Bet the finance office stays closed so students can’t even hope for a refund.

Very difficult to start and face students that are also upset because of the loss of accreditation. Many upset folks last week at the Detroit campus. They have totally been ripped off

Why would any student be foolish enough to start the session, waste their time on a useless class (not content or anyone’s teaching abilities but transferability of the credit) and give DCEH another penny?

Day one minute one be honest with them and tell the students the courses are now worthless, the credits will not transfer, and give them the choice, let them decide if they want to complete it or it they want a refund. All of the summary judgments against AU, Ai and South mandate a full refund be given.

Tell students to join "I am Ai" on Facebook so they can fight for justice.

"...if I got paid I will continue to bend over backwards and help the students..." If not, I will stand up straight and say arrivederci s---ers.

Save the bend over backwards love fest for the students and tell them to go to finance and rip up the loan agreement post haste.

I'll bet you won't.

I'm right there with you. I'm adjunct and only have 2 classes this quarter (I'm at a closing school) because a full timer decided to walk. I've been looking at leaving the area for awhile now and the end of the quarter coincides with the end of my lease. It might be the right time to make a move and go where there's more work in the field instead of teaching.

Going through the motions, but not expecting to fill in the majority of these Brightspace grade items. It is a melancholy task for sure! My attitude is simple, each payday I will check my bank account, if I got paid I will continue to bend over backwards to help students, if nothing deposits then it’s all over and I will stop. I have already emotionally detached from the job, all what’s left is cleaning out my desk and helping anyone left while they are still here, then turn in my keys and badge and “salute” the building one last time.

I'm right there with ya. My classes were already small for this quarter, now I can't imagine. Usually by this time I've sent emails and put up a welcome on Brightspace. I am not going to do much new, but I haven't even got the heart to update the syllabus. I think it will all be over soon.

Show videos and make them write reviews for weekly credit. Then offer a Final Exam-assuming the school doesn’t implode before then from no federal funding, or other legal problems, student drop outs, transfers to online, etc etc....also assuming you still have a library 📚

I am staff, not faculty but I do completely see your point. My focus at this point during my off timeis more on finding a new job.

You aren’t alone. I’ve been able to make a list in my head how many students will most likely drop this quarter.

It will be difficult to see some of them go, but I completely understand why they would walk away. My off time will not be spent on preparing for my classes from now on as much as it will be looking for a new job. Good luck to you.
