Thread regarding Dream Center Education Holdings, LLC (DCEH) layoffs

DCEH is unethical and shady and where is our email outling your “plans”???!!

Still haven’t received anything from DCEH and I am still in shock over what happened. I’m confused, sad, angry and heartbroken all in one. How does a company conduct day long trainings just THREE weeks ago and talk about the positive direction the company is moving in and having high integrity and then announce closing literally 3 weeks later, leaving hundreds of Admisisons staff without a job??!? This had to been planned for months! But why go through all that training and role out a new service model?! Why bother telling employees they needed to work on the 4th of July and make them make arrangements with their holiday plans it they knew we’d be let go before then?! Why bother?! There must have been so many shady things going on behind closed doors. And let’s not forget about the way all of this went down! In a sterile email that didn’t even have a name on the signature, followed by the conference call where there was absolutely no empathy! Just disgusting! I cannot believe we have not heard anything about severance which causes me to believe there won’t be any. Unemployment benefits are a joke! ( Minimum wage)

Thanks DCEH, for ruining so many lives with your vision. “One University.” Ha! One university, my a--. Guess they meant just having the online location open and that would be 1.

You should be ashamed of yourselves! I know I am embarrassed to have worked for such an unethical company that did NOT take students best interest in consideration.

Still hopeful for severance pay but at this point, not holding my breath.

Thoughts???

Email arrived. It says they will pay until July 13th and if that changes they will contact immediately. It says you may be eligible for severance benefits ( haven't received any letter about this).

"In addition to any working notice or pay in lieu of notice you have received, you may be eligible for severance benefits in the form of salary continuance equal to one week of your base salary times full years of service with DCEH, less lawfully required withholding s, to a maximum of 8 weeks in total between your notice and severance. "

Company will not contest unemployment benefits

Footnote "You will receive credit for prior continuous years of service with EDMC"

Colorado has not received anything. We were also promised an email letter stating the details. 2:43pm right now and still nothing. We were the only school who received a "mistaken" letter in the mail indicating we would be paid through 8/28. Then they redacted it, saying we would get new instructions. Speaking to a labor attorney today.

What state are you in? Illinois requires payout on accrued PTO, see if your state has any laws.

Is there any chance of this recording being made available in the future? For those of us that didn’t get the chance to hear it. It would also be a shame for it to be made available to the media as they’ve been covering the closing using only letters and emails

Still waiting for the mysterious email. Happy to hear someone recorded the cold, callous, don't care about you or the students you serve phone call. Good work!!

Does WARN apply if the school hasn’t officially closed yet and they just let all the admissions staff go ? I feel if we were getting severance pay or staying on payroll til August they would have had a plan and told us on Monday. This does not sit right with me. Guess I’ll try to survive on my minimum wage unemployment check.

Smart to record the call!! I still can’t get over his greeting! “Good afternoon everyone!!!! Let’s get started!!! 😃😃😃😃” in such an unbeat unempathetic tone!!!!

They have to look like they were trying to avoid laws about closing schools.

By law a company that closes a branch must provide a WARN notice of 69 days. That is your severance and if you aren't still getting paid for 69 days after you were notified then seek a lawyer.

Anyone else’s record the call from Monday? I know I sure did. What happens if they stated to us that we would get the email by the end of the week and nothing is sent? Can we do anything legally?

Mine too!!!! They even sent that email about a month ago talking about all the “wonderful” changes they would be rolling out in the upcoming months! Have you heard anything at all about severance?! If they didn’t have anything planned when they let us go, I doubt we will see anything. I can’t believe they won’t even pay out our PTO.

My boss had just hinted at new compensation plans and possible raises only days before.
